I did this too at 18, got rid of everything, sold it, gave it away or threw it away, and went hitchhiking around the US for almost 2 years. Truly, the gains were profoundly insightful and intangible. It was about surrender and letting go of attachment, about trust and inner knowing.

Sweet! I have no desire to become an extreme minimalist—though I have been and will continue to give away even more material things in the near future—but I can definitely understand his preference.

Plus, lighter travel is less stressful and more liberating.

Most of all, I highly resonate with the idea of focusing more on one’s invaluable creativity, by focusing less on outer world stuff.
