Cooking outside, setting up lawn chairs, tying your dogs up and generally making a campground out of a Walmart parking lot, is why so many stores and town ordinances are forbidding overnight parking . I very much appreciate a place to stay overnight . I usually shop while there and try to remain as invisible as I can and head out early . I have been using these for nearly 20 years and haven’t been asked to leave yet, but who knows .

If you need to stay a night in a WalMart parking lot, ask for permission of the manager on duty and park where he/she tells you to park. Do not put down your levelers, do not put out your awning, do not grill outside or set up lawn chairs and coolers. Stay in your rig and be respectful of those around you and remember you are on private property and being given a privilege to rest there for the night.

I was homeless in Las Vegas for three weeks. I had a job but my apartment was over-run with bed bugs, so I lived in my car until I was able to recover from that trauma. During those three weeks, I parked my car at night in the employee parking lot of a large hospital. That way, I had access to the bathrooms in the ER and I felt very safe sleeping among other parked cars. Security never bothered me because I backed in against a retaining wall and slept in the back. (Honda Civic hatchback... roomier than you think!) I would recommend if you have a stealth car or van to try hospital parking lots. The ambulances didn't bother me but only once was I woken by a lifeflight helicopter.

When traveling we tend to look for hospitals because no one will bother you, not security or police in case you have a sick loved one or you are an on call physician. Also we have a membership at Planet Fitness which are everywhere and 24hrs…. And we can also shower there so it’s a win win!

When I was traveling coast to coast in 2016 summer, I spent 70% nights at Walmart parking lot. In return I did all my grocery shopping at Walmart. This is win win.

I lived in my jemmy for 10 years.. never had a problem. Always parked under the lights at the biggest truck stop I could find..
Rented the showers. Ate at the truckers restaurant. . Truckers are massively cool people

I once picked up a hitchhiker on a stealth mission.
He asked me " ain't you worried I could be a serial killer or something?"
I replied " what are the chances there would be two in the same a van."
😲🙄🤔🤣

Great video. I agree. Van dweller for 5 years. Most important thing is respect wherever you go. Pick up trash. Be mindful and friendly.

Here is some insider information about camping at Walmart, per corporate headquarters, the managers are not allowed to ask you to leave, the reason for the no overnight signs are semi drivers that decide to park across 20 spots up front by the store.
With that being said some city's have ordinances against lotiering

Great video! Never thought of car dealerships! (Though I’ve stayed at Brake repair shops.) Hospitals are another good option on cross country travel. Always well marked with great security and zero hassle.

Just recently I ended up driving from Tampa to Baltimore via I-95 in my Chevy Cruze. Normally a 16 hr drive, it took me over 24 hrs to get back to Baltimore because of all the planes being grounded so traffic was insane. I swear I drifted through Virginia. I stopped numerous times at state rest stops along with larger truck stops and had no issues at all. Obviously I stayed clear of the rigs and the only issues I had was if someone was slamming their door. Once I got over that initial fear of possible being a victim I slept great.

I stealth "camp" in a 2005 Ford Ranger, a taller canopy with no side windows, front slider, & rear window sight-blocked with a blue tarp; I sleep in my recliner (which has 14, 000 miles on it from one trip alone.). The only actions I ever perform at the place where I sleep is drive by it, return and park, observe for 23.9 seconds, and climb briskly into the back. All washing, eating, exercise, meds and other prep are done elsewhere: parks, stores, bars. I avoid rich neighborhoods where denizens cower frightened over losing either their treasure or any perceived high esteem that they imagine they have earned for owning posh stuff. I do not patronize Wal-Mart for political (killed-the-mom-and-pops, employee treatment, right-wing-support, etc.) reasons, so, to keep a vestige of integrity, I don't stay there, since I wouldn't shop there..
I sleep almost anywhere I want in cities and towns. I park in middle /working class neighborhoods between two single family houses on the street. I arrive after dark. Anyone seeing my dark pick-up would think I am visiting the neighbor's house. Never been reported. Staying in a town multiple nights, I rotate between 3 spots. Since I use the Lay Z Boy, I do not need level parking; I just turn the chair. Front slider is open and a 5" rechargeable fan next to my face aimed towards the slider keeps bugs out and me cool. In the morning, even if there is a girl scout cookie sale happening on the adjacent sidewalk, or a parade of nuns, I pop open the back, climb out into the daylight, enter the cab, start her up, and brothers and sisters, verily, I keep on truckin.

I have camped on BLM land for weeks on end for the last 30 years. Never ever had a problem -- well other than the times I had to bug out because of range fires -- but it wasn't like I didn't see them coming. The further I get from cities and towns, the safer I feel.

Nothing is less stealth than a windowless van. I think the most is that same van with heavily tinted windows and a graphic on the side that says, "Commuter van." An amazing thing to me is that it is so easy to have all the necessary items, actual flush toilet, shower, functional kitchen, real water system, holding tanks, but very few have them. I suspect Walmart would have a problem with outdoor cooking, and outdoor eating like you are camping, they allow us to overnight, not CAMP. Abusing the use of Walmart hurts us all

Truck stop showers are cleaner because they clean them after every use. I'm retired trucker, and loved the truck stop showers for that reason.
