You're actually one of the few tourists that actually says Vlad the Impaler was more of a local hero than a dark lord or vampire. Thank you for that! That is so true.

As a Romanian, I can say I entirely agree with everything that was said in this vid.

romanians do not speak russian, maybe the older generations, +60 years old, because it was taught in schools, also, there are no similarities between the russian and the romanian languages, romanian being a latin language closer to italian, spanish, french and portuguese

You did the worst faux pas. Rusian is not at all close to romanian. Latin is-70 procent. We have slavonic (and i wil belive that are thracian words adopted in slavic countries via Bulgarians and the orthodox church, not viceversa. When we were here, rusia was a swap with barbarian tribes).

Great advice altogether ! One minor correction, the tap water it's fine by all health standards, in newer flat complexes that might house an AirBNB the plumbing it's new, but in older buildings that plumbing was probably rotten.

I live in Cluj in a newly built apartment complex, I can trust the water that comes within the legal health norms (I tested it). But I also own a old 1980's commie flat in the city and that water it's only good for taking a shower as the central plumbing was never changed since the flat got built (old poor pensioner neighbours), I never used it for cooking, I had a kitchen reverse osmosis filter where the filter would be done in less than 3 months, because of all the rust and sediments.

When in Romania my advice would be bottled water (all of them are fine), as almost it is spring water, you would rarely see treated tap water bottled.

Russian is not close to Romanian at all lol, Romanian is a Romance language and it's closer to Latin than the Italian language. And the country Russia is not close to Romania, Germany is closer to Romania than Russia.

I wouldn't say "limited metro" - because it is actually quite big. Almost double than Poland, Hungary, etc. My opinion that is the best mode of transport in Bucharest.

Thank you for this lovely video. I would also like to add to this:
1:40 also spanish and italian a lot, recently many teens learn japanese and korean as well.
there's no need to avoid conversations from the communist past, usually there are old ppl (60+) who fancied those times, and young people who fancy democracy, but in general we all agree that the communist era was a pile of crap
Regarding the cash thing, yes it is good to have some cash as in any country. Personally, I have payed with cash 3 times in the last ~5 years. We also don't expect you to tip, if you wanna do it please do it because the service was that good, don't just tip because it's "expected".

Just a little nitpick at the money talk about card usage, you made it sound like we barely started implementing paying with cards or contactless. That's not the case, can be on the countryside but you'd be hard pressed to find a city where you can't pay 99% of things via card.

I was more shocked to go in bigger european countries and they don't have a system for you to pay a bus fair with your card, you either have to SMS or pay for a physical ticket or use an app to do it depending on the place.

Good video. I agree with what you said in the end about the drivers here, they believe "they're F1 drivers". That is so unfortunately true. Most Romanians lack patience.

What you mean by "That's the way are things here " because it's raining one day or two and maybe next rainy day will be next year ?😁 Romania is not UK...

There are 2 IMPORTANT RULES
1. DON'T EVER talk about Dracula! Us, Romanians, are disappointed because you guys made up this story
2. THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT!
DONT EVER CALL THAT POPULAR SONG "mai a hi" JUST CALL IT "dragostea din tei" JUST LEARN HOW TO SAY THAT YOU'LL GET GOSSIPED IF YOU SAY THAT

WTF? Russian similar ? romanian is a latin language. Cash ? It is mandated by law that every business has to have a POS. We only have cash to pay for very small amounts and for paying at farmers markets. Petty theft ? I haven't been a victim since 1996.

I have been living in Cluj for the last 5 months, for Romanian standard its pretty expensive, dont go if you are on a tight budget, prices in cafes and restaurants are like in the west EU, which is crazy.

Yes, don't talk politics, religion, history, don't point out racism or any problem, just pass through here like the cardboard cutout that you are. Seriously, if you care about something, want to learn or just to hear people's opinions just talk. Some may be passionate or dismissive, but most actually like debating and lively conversations.

Roma is an ethnic group coexisting amongst the majority of the Romanians. Romanians are not an ethnic group, they are the large majority. Other important ethnic groups are Hungarians, Germans, Ukrainians, etc.
