Interview with Dr. Malka Shabtay, anthropologist and director of Nafkot, on the immigration of Ethiopian Jews to Israel, with over 300 arriving during the past few weeks.

"This is an exciting moment. There are peaks in the Israeli attitude and relation to Ethiopian Jews. We are in different times which means that some government decisions that had taken place many years ago have not been implemented. So now they are actually implementing decisions that took place many years ago," she told i24NEWS.

I was always fascinated by Judeo-Afro culture and history, especially that of the Ancient Himyarite Kingdom of Yemen. It’s all really a rich tapestry, one that colors in the whole picture of our story as humans from wondrous places.

Falash Mura masquerading as Jews
By 1991, when Operation Solomon brought the “remnant of Ethiopian Jewry” to Israel in an astounding 36-hour airlift that saw thousands of new immigrants, our cause had elicited unprecedented support in Israel and around the world.

With that, our Diaspora ended. There were no more Jews in Ethiopia. All who kept their faith in the Land of Israel and in the Jewish faith were able to come to Israel.

Those in Ethiopia today who claim to be part of the community are a collection of people looking for handouts trying to pass themselves off as Jews forced to forsake their Jewish faith.

There is no greater lie than theirs.
It’s true that in the early years of the Falash Mura aliyah, in the 1990s, there were families petitioning to come to Israel whose ancestors had converted to Christianity generations ago and whom we knew well. Though many of us felt ambivalent about these distant cousins whose grandparents had abandoned Judaism, we knew who they were and, in many cases, welcomed them to Israel.

But those who are petitioning to come today are different. They have no ties to Judaism or to the Jewish community. They are Christians who want to better their economic situations and therefore are embracing the trappings of Judaism.
What do they have in common with us today?

The answer lies not with them but with hypocritical American Jews who see the Judaism for which many of my fellow countrymen gave their lives as little more than a way to score more fund-raising successes.

This is why some American Jewish organizations are coercing the State of Israel to bring out-and-out Christians masquerading as Jews.

There is no greater tragedy than bringing people to Israel whose connection to Judaism is merely incidental at best, and at worst are non-Jews taking advantage of the ignorance of American Jews to better their lives.

Above all, this is a tragedy for the Ethiopian Jewish community.

Danny Adeno Abebe, a journalist for Israel’s daily Yediot Achronot, made aliyah to Israel in Operation Moses in 1984.)

the ultra orthodox have played a large part in the small number of Ethiopian Jews returning to Israel

The plight of the African Jews is heartbreaking, I've read about them in several books. The governments of countries feel that simply because people are Jews, they can be used as bargaining chips, or worse, as we have seen through history.

Aren’t Ethiopians technically Israelites? Given that they derive from Menelik? King Menelik, the son of King Solomon who is the son of David. Isn’t it blasphemous that those in Israel are treating their brothers like this? Am I missing information. I’m quite sure they are Israelites. How does this look to God?

Hidden Ethiopian Jewish communities, isolated from the time of the destruction of the first temple period, but maintained their Jewish heritage, a never ending bond, beutiful.

They excluded the Tigrayan Jews in Ethiopia who are currently facing a genocide from the Ethiopian government and Amhara Christian fano militias! Shame

They are from Africa and not dispersed after the first Temple. They are called Falashas not Beta Israels. They have some of the oldest recorded Old Testament worship in the world. There is no proven evidence they are descendants of Dan, alternately, there is more explanation they are descendants of Ham and Judah. Get your facts and sources straight.

04:22, However, their DNA E1b can not be distinguished between Christian and Jewish Communities in Ethiopia which are both African haplotypes. (E1b1b)
In my research, Ancient Cush, Nubians are of outhern Egypt and Northern Sudan, today almost all of them are Islamatized yet, it is Biblical Group mentioned in Isaiah and Hezekiel where Is. 37, King Tirhakah mentioned who helped Hezekiel during Assyrian Invasions, these Nubian Communities are J1 and J2, Semitic Lineage of DNA Haplotypes.
However, King Tirhakah is not mensioned in Ethiopian History and never have called CUSH. (*It was called Abyssynia)
Queen Kandake (Candace) mentioned in NT who was a Nubian queen, not Ethiopian.
Most likely, Christian Sudan was connected to Egyptian that very much hold ancient traces of connections between Israel and ancient days old.

Solomon's people escape persecution and return home; "Hebrew Israelites" have someone that can feel comfortable with marrying, giving them more incentive to convert to Judaism. Win-win. Not to mention all of the Israelite nuances that may have survived amongst the Ethiopian Jews that Jews of all backgrounds else get to remember!
