As a Canadian I could not possibly recommend Croatia enough. It has it all, especially my heart. I live in Croatia a year at a time and much prefer it to Canada. Hands down, no comparison. The reasons are too numerous to include and would fill an entire book. When not in Croatia I long to be and when I am I dread leaving. It is constantly on my mind. ❤

Regarding the different cadences of the Portuguese language: I'm Brazilian, and when I first moved to NYC, I dated a girl from Portugal for a bit. One night while standing in line for a a show, we were having a conversation using our respective versions of the same language. Then the couple standing behind us interrupted and first the woman said to me "I'm learning French, and I thought I was doing well at it, yet I can't understand a word you said" and her date followed with "and how come you're speaking French, and you (looking at my girlfriend) are replying in some Eastern European language?" That's how different the 2 versions of Portuguese sound. And within Brazil itself we have several different sounding Portugueses as well. Just like in the US. You'll never mistake a Minnesota accent for rural Louisiana, or a Bostonian for a Hawaiian.

Happy that you got the Netherlands / Holland distinction correct. A lot of people get it wrong. Keep up the good work!

Poland's kinda cool. Super safe, cheaper than everything on the list here, most people in big cities speak english, cities are clean, good public transport, lots of nice nature/historical places, lots of trees and green spaces in the cities, decent train/cycling infrastructure

I took my daughter to Ireland several years ago, and she promptly got bronchitis that went into pneumonia. I took her to a doctor in a small village and was very happy with the service provided. The meds prescribed were double strength antibiotic and cough medicine. Both meds only cost me 20 dollars! Those meds in the USA would have cost well over 100 dollars. I think I paid the Doctor 40 for the visit. I was shocked at how downsized the office staff was. One receptionist and the doctor who took his own vital signs! I am a nurse and have never seen a US doctor take his own vitals in 35 years in this profession.

It is my dream to go backpacking through Europe one day. Especially Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, and Switzerland.

Hi Briggs. Where I grew up there was Portuguese American club that had the best BBQs and the wine was amazing. I'm not Portuguese but one of my best friends is and there were some nights where things got a wee bit hazy. Thanks for the video and Happy Monday.

Hey Briggs! As a nurse, I would really enjoy and appreciate a video that talks about the workforce in each European country, like the biggest workforce in England is travel, or
Hungary is healthcare, or business, something like that-would be very interesting!

Austrian here, who lived in Denmark for some years - was surprised about the "low cost of living" statement. Copenhagen is a great city, but being cheap is not one of their benefits. Think half-litre bottle of coke for about 5 dollars at 7/11.

Poland not top 10? The prices, quality of life, rich history and culture, great food, it's in central Europe so you can travel all over very easy, clean streets, low crime, great people, beautiful scenery from mountains to sea with the wide and sandy beaches, +2500 lakes in masurian region, a lot of castles and museums, people speak english and so on .... Winters are not so harsh as it were, but from April/May to October its beautiful

I dreamt about visiting Paris, since I was 12 years old, and had plenty of dreams about it in my mind. Finally, when I went at age 45 for the first time, it lived up to every one of those dreams! It was beautiful, historic, artistic and romantic. I didn’t find the city dirty or crime-ridden at all! In fact, the city that I live in which is by no means, a larger metropolitan area, has worse homelessness in crime then I saw in Paris. Also, from ex-pats that I have heard from there is more petty crime in Paris, like pickpocketing, but very little violent crimes such as in places, like New York, or San Francisco.

Italians love Americans. We share a lot of cultural similarities. I feel very comfortable there. Paris isn’t like the rest of France. Country life in France is pleasant and good natured. Paris is not. Too many people jammed next to each other. Makes people mean.

Just got back from 3 weeks in Slovenia and Croatia. Both incredibly beautiful and beyond historic. Slovenia has 1000 castles. Game of Thrones was partially filmed in Croatia. The
freeways are in better
shape than any
freeway in California. I had some of the best food and wine in my life and it was not expensive. And 8 out of ten people you will meet speak excellent English. And the icing on the cake: street crime is negligible and I saw zero homelessness. Made the trip home bittersweet for sure.
