This advice is not as easy as it sounds, you may triple your income, but you will also increase your expenses quite a bit. You have to cover your own health insurance, your own business insurance, pay your own taxes and also handle marketing yourself. You will also be the most expendable line item at that company. You will be the first let go at the first sign of any financial trouble.

Unfortunately it doesn't apply to all roles, I mostly see contracting roles for BI and reporting, or SWE... Have yet to see the same for DevOps, Platform or DBA roles and I do keep my eyes peeled for those.
