I bought your book many years ago and was impressed with your no staples techniques as compared to Ted Moore's canoe book that I had bought a few years prior to that. Excellent as usual. Try denatured alcohol in a small (2 oz.) bottle with a fairly fine syringe tip and shoot it onto the hot glue (or into the seam), let it sit a few seconds then give it a whack. The denatured will not hurt the wood or the wood glue. This will reduce the amount of force required to break the bond a lot. I look forward to your next video (every day).

Turning it over revealed a great look down the curves. Looks like a really nice shape with a lot of good handling in it. I'll bet it responds very good edging it around.

I especiallty appreciate your injection of the reality of working towards the ideal but accepting that perfection is elusive and finding balance between perfection and not driving yourself mad over tiny imperfections that noone but you will see or know about...lol...


Question on transition between stripping top and bottom - I saw (pun intended) how you cut the inner stems as part of loosening up bottom hull from forms in prep for doing top hull. inner stem is still taped to forms...does this creeate an issue when removing hull from forms or is the tape weak enough that inner stem pulls away fromforms without too much difficulty as hull is eventually removed from forms?

Hi Nick. I've only just started watching you videos. Its been a pleasure. Anyway I'm just wondering if you had considered feeding a Guitar String or Piano wire or maybe even some braided fishing line in between any two of the hot glue blobs, then essentially making a garrote and using that to separate the glue for the masking tape. If that were to work then perhaps you wouldn't have to release the forms on the strong back. I've used the method to remove a windscreen for a car once, thou the that glue might have been softer. Just curious on your thoughts mate.

Popping those glue joints made me cringe a little. That must have been a little unnerving the first time you did it. I have no experience with Hot Melt. I was wondering if the super glue activator ever reacted with the tannins in the Cedar? I used to design and build timber frame sunrooms for a large New England company. Our trim packages were always red cedar or Port Orford White Cedar. We had to be very careful how we stored and handled the wood to avoid staining.

Nick, is there an easy way for you to attenuate the music about 40% in your videos? You have a pleasing soft voice that needs the volume turned up to hear well, but then the music comes in and scares everyone in my house ;) I can't wait to see this boat wetted out the first time; the grain is going to be amazing.
