There are only 30 certified true IMAX 70MM theaters in the entire world. I flew over 700 miles to see Oppenheimer and determine if the experience was really worth it.

Nolan is too dedicated to his filmmaking; broke 3 IMAX cameras in his career (to obviously create some classics)😭, but still didn't let go, and gave us OPPENHEIMER as a result. Glad you watched it how it was meant to be, unlike most of us chumps here

There is 1 true IMAX theater left in the Chicago land area called "Cinemark Seven Bridges and IMAX" in Woodridge. They may potentially show INTERSELLAR in 15/70mm for the 10th anniversary later this year. Keep an eye out. 👍

I recently had the incredible opportunity to watch Oppenheimer at a 70mm IMAX theater here in London. The experience was absolutely mind-blowing! I've heard that the Dual Laser 4K IMAX theaters also maintain the same aspect ratio of 1.43:1 and offer improved blacks and colors, though they can't quite match the breathtaking detail of 70mm IMAX film. Imagining a future with IMAX digital cameras capable of capturing 18K footage is truly exciting, as it could bring this astonishing format into the mainstream for more people to enjoy.

I saw it in laser IMAX yesterday and it was amazing, the picture was so bright. I still want to try and get down to London and see it in 15/70 at the BFI or Science Museum before its run ends, cause it sounds like it’s a whole different experience.

Just realized how lucky I am that I live literally a block away from a cinema show 70mm IMAX

I'm very curious what seats you had in the theater. I saw it in 1570, and while it was definitely cool, I didn't get any of the feeling of motion or feeling like the particles were coming out of the screen. A lot of the dialog was also hard for me to catch too, especially when the soundtrack was loud.

I was seated about 1/4 of the way in from the edge, 4 rows back. Were your seats more in the center? Very curious to know.

*edit, saw in another comment that you were a couple seats from the end, so not in the middle. That's so weird, I wonder if each theater is just different. Cuz while it was cool, I didn't get a really "immersive" feeling and was actually left feeling a bit disappointed.

Although afterwards the projectionists let me into the projector room and showed me all the equipment, which honestly was the best part of the experience. They were really cool guys.

I'm in NYC, just just just found a single ticket for the best seat in the house for tomorrow morning IMAX 70mm. Super excited and even more psyched after watching this.

Almost everything you said is theater specific. Saw it at the Universal Riverwalk in LA, 70MM IMAX and the experience was amazing but the seats were overly tight and crowded. You literally have to stand up to let people pass in front of you. Worst part of the experience, but still amazing.

I flew almost 2600 miles from HNL to LAX to watch this film. I am going to be critical, but my overall experience is still great.

I watched this at Universal AMC IMAX. My seat was K14.

Not so good:
- I did not know that the seat level were too low, so it feels like the screen is tilted upwards.
- The sound was too loud, to the point that it kind of ruined my experience.
- There were times that a spec of dust of dirt was in front of the lens of the projector, and it kind of distracted for some moment.

The good:
- The sheer amount of detail when it's showing the scene shot on IMAX 15-70mm. You can't see any image noise or grain. It was just breathtaking and jaw dropping. You can clearly see the difference of image quality between the scenes shot on IMAX 15-70mm and those that are not.
- The size of the screen almost consumes my whole point of view. I estimate 95° of my horizontal view from where I was seated (K14). It was immersive.

I saw the true Imax version in the Indiana theater, which has almost everything you experienced in Atlanta, the picture was incredible and the sound crystal clear with no distortion (an LFX version was distorted). Indiana has the tiny cramped seats though.

ooooft, that's dedication.... The nearest Imax 70mm screening was 3.5 hours drive for me... too far.... so I did the next best thing, and saw it twice on opening day.... once imax laser, once in (non Imax) 70mm film.

Kudos to you for the video, and the dedication!

Ryan, I can't imagine watching Oppenheimer twice, that's insane. My first real IMAX experience was in Florida in 2013 when Man of Steel first came out. Also, what's this super secret work in Atlanta hmm🧐?

What seats did you get for 70mm screening? I saw Oppenheimer in imax laser, and was amazed. Would love to check out dune 2 in imax 70mm. I live in san fran, and there’s one 70mm imax right next to me 😅. (I am on vacation now, not at home so there was no imax 70mm near me) What seat should I get for the best experience in imax 70mm ?

Not to toot my own horn but i am very spoiled when it comes to movie theaters in California, we have 7 IMAX theaters in this state showing the IMAX 70mm version, as well as 4D theaters, screen x theaters and many more formats I can’t even name. Meanwhile other people drove a long way or even flew to see this movie in a premium format!

Why are you burring IMAX xenon like that ? Bad audio? Poor visual quality? Bad seat? The speakers are more/less the same between 15/70mm and imax xenon. Sure 2k is not as sharp as (estimated) 18k but it is something. Bad seats are a theatre problem. I respect 15/70 mm even though there is no such venue in my country. This doesn't mean IMAX xenon is not good. You still get 26% more screen than normal theatre.
