People who didn’t watch the movie- Charlie is gay and the love of his life killed himself because he was ostracized and isolated from his family because they’re a part of a church. He couldn’t live with the feeling of not being able to be who he is without sacrificing his family. Charlie blames the church for his lovers death

As a Christian I find the bible devastating as well, and the realities of purgatory terrify me. I’ll never understand people saying religion is to comfort the weak, if you take the literal meaning from the scripture it’s the most uncomforting thing in the world, it’s just as scary as the world we live in and that’s ok

He’s not wrong at the beginning. It is devastating. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not full of fairytales or sunshine and rainbows. It sends a powerful message to man through some very grim events. Not all bad, but many. It’s a great way to get the message across, but it’s not so light hearted.
