My Response to Saintontas...Is Calcharo Bad?

Calcharo is a great character and if you enjoy him you shouldn't be afraid of missing out on the end game at all.

That being said the points made by Saintontas and other Wuthering Waves CCs and players are valid. There is no reason for a 5 star character like Calcharo to have so many stringent constraints to circumvent in order to live up to his full potential.

If Kuro games is willing the relax some of those constraints, or just give him a buff like bringing his switch cancelling while retaining buff mechanics back, that would be great! I am all for it.

That was exactly what I mentioned yesterday. Calcharo maybe a bit nerfed but as enjoyable and mechanical complex character he is. Calcharo, yinlin, verina will always be a team I will use in tower of adversity endgame!

I went into this game blind and picked Cal and have been having a great time with him and not struggling to complete any content. I had no idea he was bad until the community told me.

Excellent insight and the fact that you've progressed this far without optimal healer, utilized supports other's deem bad and have done so many solo Calcharo runs shows you actually have skill and insight into the character.

THANK YOU for showing how the echo set buffs in real time that was so helpful to know WHY and when heavy atks are optimal and all the buffs they trigger

I'm still learning him but what I think CC's get wrong on tier lists is when they fail to differentiate that Calcharo played optimally should be S tier, but Calcharo played lazily is A tier - or at least make two separate lists of just raw DPS vs easier dps. (I think he's only calced 1k less dmg than Jiyan (although both of them are like several K less than Jinhsi so I guess maybe she's the new S tier lol)

ALSO, dps on paper does NOT translate the same in practice when there is interruption, parrying, dodge, etc...but i will say Calcharo is easier to play than CC's make him out to be

I don't have a problem gaining forte for him but I do struggle to use forte without the risk of it taking too long and getting pummeled - I'm also on mobile with controller so I get button delay (plus my own skill issues hahaha)

If he ever get leap (pgr term, like a post release upgrade system)
His judgement cut should be iframe
His slam should be dmg resistance by 50% at least
Dodge cancelling his slam should not lose all stacks
His non ultimate slam should deal more dmg

In my opinion after over 100hrs of playing him at least

The thing about meta perspective most especially in gacha games is that if you're not the absolute best, a lot of people will call you trash. That's just the thing with gacha games. But it doesn't make it true. It's just not "optimal", but it by no means makes something bad, "bad" is just the word that people throw around to say that a certain thing is not "the best".

BUT there are actual characters that are considered "bad" for real and that is mostly because a lot of characters are better than them and out of the batch, they are at the bottom of the barrel aka the ones that you commonly see in the bottom of a tier list. But even during that case, it does not mean that the game is unplayable if you use the absolute bottom tier characters. It's just slightly harder, takes more effort and skill.

Just a slightly different example, in Pokemon, Caterpie, one of the weakest pokemon of all time, probably within Top 3 weakest, weaker than Magikarp. But you can still beat quite a few pokemon games SOLO with just a Caterpie. You don't miss out on anything if you use something weak, you just have to be better yourself if you choose to use them.

Cal is the reason I started to play the game. I saw the character and I fell totally in love with his design (and with him, why not). I started to play since 1.1 patch so I don't have Yinlin, but even with that, I feel the potential on Cal's damage.

Even if I have a better geared Jinhsi (266% crit damage and 50% crit rate; almost perfect echoes with just the power of being lucky with her), I find her a bit boring to play cuz everything is just so simple, that's why I enjoy so much Cal. He's hard, rewarding and funny to play.

But ye. We all want a buff for him. He deserve it and its unfair for a 5* character to have so many constraints to play optimal with him.

Just beat impermanence heron hologram 6 with Calcharo, Yinlin, and Jianxin. Food buffs, sure, but that’s 0 sequence Calcharo with a battle pass weapon. Wait till I try him out with the new Jinhsi signature weapon I just pulled 😂

Calcharo is not bad in terms of DMG, because his DMG is insane. It's his liberation punishing the player to dodge counter, because you can lose an entire DM cast because of the time loss. This issue is more for higher ping players like one of my friends. Also that his enhance intro skill has a huge animation, but no time stop or time slow. I'm sure it ends up being a DPS loss right?

For the dodge cancel animation, they should allow a phantom continue this attack instead, or making it that he doesn't consume the stacks

The good ones & bad ones 😂

The fact that you solo all Holo (except TM) says enough about Calcharo

fellow f2p here. I absolutely don't mind if my calcharo isn´t dealing dmg like Jiyan or jinhsi alone, he's a standard 5* character after all... but what I do mind is the gameplay when parrying and not dying while doing his combos is next to impossible/holds significant dmg loss due to swap canceling. Danjin - a 4* character - can build up forte bar out of combat and has good parry animations and a very nice dodge counter attack, not even talking about the crazy solo dmg lmao. It's insane to me I can't 3 star clear the left tower with lvl 80 5* characters and their best in slot weapons (calcharo - lustrous razor, Yinlin - string master, Verina - variation). Im happy if I get out 2 DMs while fighting Aix lmao. Buffing yinlin´s outro to apply even after the resonator is switched out would make her gamebreaking and kuro can't do that after the banner has ended, so we have to target calcharo. Dmg changes can not make up for the effort you have to put in to actually only hit his combos or dying lmao (dodging while attack cancelling and swap canceling everything in his ult state) so we need faster animations (to properly parry, a core mechanic of this game) and for DM idk exactly what we need. If we buff/change his inherent skill so calcharo doesn't lose buffs while being swap cancelled in his DMs, that would take him back to CBT2 levels of broken and we don´t need that. So how about the animation gaining invincibility? Before you scream at me, the attack is still slow and can miss, but at least you don´t get hit and as we know, kuro doesn't appreciate swap cancels because it adds too much try hard mechanics into a casual gacha game, so this would encourage the player to stay on calcharo and not do swap cancels as well as not dying. Im Fine with DMs being kinda clunky - I mean the animations looks hella sick - but let his basics/skill have a fast start-up for parrying at least.. I don't think dodging/dodge counters should give forte/ult forte bar, because that would make him too broken (too many DMs), you can just cancel your dodge counter with skill and making skill give forte bar in his ult would make much more sense than dodge counters lmao. Do I love playing the absolute most mechanical characters in a game and tryharding the fuck out of it? Yes, absolutely, just like I do in other games, but the reward for this high skill ceiling gameplay in WuWa is a damage loss... like wtf

Sometimes meta players are so bizarre to me. I will play any husbando, heck, any characters, if I liked them enough. I don’t care it they’re nerfed or C Tier Meta, I will play them. 😂 Nice video! ❤

04:45 - Pretty sure you found a bug there. Heavy and Skill seems to be two separate stacks instead of one combinded one. In the Void Thunder set.

I did check the other sets with similar effects, Sun-sinking Eclipse and Freezing Frost, and im pretty sure Void Thunder is not working as intended. Hopefully a bug report will get it fixed. I also checked Autumntrace, for fun. And it seems to work like it should. (You can use Basic and/or Heavy to gain all stacks)


Void Thunder - Upon using Heavy Attack or Resonance Skill. This effect stacks up to 2 times
Heavy or Skill cannot be used in succesion to gain all stacks.

Heavy - 70 / 85 / *
Skill - 70 / 85 / *

Note* - to get full effect (30%) you need to use Heavy AND Skill. As shown in the video.


Sun-sinking Eclipse - Upon using Basic Attack or Heavy Attack. This effect stacks up to 4 times
