You guys need to listen to the community and give them what they want

PvZ1 was a slow paced strategy game about planning, plant dynamics, resource management, and on the fly problem solving. we do not want a fast paced game where every decision is made for us beforehand. that's not a strategy game.

there's a reason there were only 4 stages in pvz1. it wasn't a weakness of the game as modern popcap seems to think, it played into the player's mastery of the enemies and mechanics of the game. if the player spends 10 rounds in a row on the exact same map they learn EVERYTHING about it. the difficulty ramping of the enemies is challenging but not overwhelming because the player has become comfortable in their environment. this is the same reason there were never shifting tiles in the first game. that would be a breach of the trust the game had reached with the player; taking away all control and prioritizing thinking ahead in a way that's foreign to the gameplay loop.

the fast paced approach also makes the plants less valuable. strategy can feel measly in a game where your plants are rapidly shifted, placed, and lost. the strategic element of plant positioning and priority is completely lost when plants come and go so frequently. there's no reason or way to plan and experiment with plant combinations because it just isn't necessary.

there's also a reason the player received a new plant at the end of every level. it didn't matter how far in the game you were, there was always an interesting reward in place at the end of the next level. a new plant is a reliable way to keep the player interested on what's to come. this also blended beautifully with the slower paced levels, allowing the player to theorize how fitting a new plant into existing strategies could be beneficial, and giving them time to adapt with that plant after seeing it's exact use.

Popcap, you are NOT reaching a new audience with this game. it's a mishmash of generic mobile game mechanics, none of which standing out in any way. the approach you have taken with the pacing, level design, and less strategic gameplay will not land with a new audience. i don't understand why the priority isn't to make a good game. this game should be utilizing the mechanics and dynamics of the games before it simply because those games were made with heart and a plan. it's not nostalgia goggles, the first game was better because it was a thorough display of teaching and trusting the player with a complex strategy game.

edit: i have more to say :)
the biggest difference between old and new popcap boils down to how the company views games: art vs product. games are an art form. the original popcap knew that, which is why they created all of the great games they did. it was a group of passionate artists creating a work they were proud of. the new approach to the pvz franchise has prioritized making a profit over making art, ignoring that games made with passion are the ones that spread to the spread to the masses.

an alpha, beta, or demo of a game should NEVER involve micro transactions. have you forgotten the point of a demo? it's not a way to make money, it's a demonstration of the gameplay people can expect and be excited for. a proper demo exists for the developers to show the world what they've been working on and gather feedback. it does NOT exist for profit.

to popcap's credit, it looks like they're listening to the community about plant picking. i'm glad there's some communication happening between us and them, but it doesn't excuse their behavior. we are passionate fans of something they created, we have every right to be upset when they use it as a soulless vehicle of generating profit.

I’m actually looking forward to a global release from reading the development notes. I’ve always been hopeful for this game and it seems the team is taking this a step in the right direction. Thanks for listening to us Popcap

Ya'll stop complaining since the one here who is online (for most of the time) is just the marketing team, not the devs.

Being a PVZ fan nowadays is like watching someone in a coma and hoping they’ll wake up soon

Yo, could you guys add the new levels to endless? It's becoming dull with the levels on repeat. Could you also add level filters and level replay to the game, so we can get a variety of levels to play instead of just playing the same old endless levels.

If you could add a level filter (i.e 1-100 etc, etc) to endless then that would be awesome.

Man. make it so zombies don’t just wail their hands while their eating plants. Also, peashooter seems soulless to me. He looks dizzy and wailing around like the zombies

After adding plant-select option, it became a bit better in my opinion. But it still needs more, turn the lawnmower into 5 lawnmowers, and change the gardenscapes theme, I miss the pvz 2 storyline and seeing worlds and levels.
