The wonderfulness and comfort of this program is nothing short of amazing, and off the charts.

You know you’ve written something truly unique when it illicits such reactions as seen in this comments section

I don't think Messiaen was trying to transcribe the pitches and rhythms of the birds literally. It's not a truly accurate literal dictation but rather an ingeniously color-filtered vision of the birdsong that approximates the pitch contours and rhythms. His transcriptions imply harmonies and scales that are not in the actual bird sounds but are suggested by them, at least to his unique ear. Loriod was a phenomenal interpreter of her husband's work, almost his second self.

Magnifique !

hah really nice, been thinking about it since I heard Miles Davis mimicked birds in the trees when he was young.

The issue with these juxtapositions is that, each bird generally has several different calls and songs it can make, some several dozen, and each often with minute variations. These can vary also depending on the region, time of season, the individual bird itself, etc. We don't know the exact calls Messiaen was trying to imitate and how they sounded from the bird(s) he was imitating, PLUS, artistic interpretation is a thing.

I wonder if he played these back so the birds could hear and see how they would respond.
