This is a truly great and insightful review, about how it will be possible - in the future - to prevent entry into myopia in the young eye!
Before they get in any "deeper", than -0.75 Diopters, or 20/50, on their Home Snellen Chart.

Good data shows the normal eye (positive and negative STATES), controls its STATE, to its AVERAGE of ACCOMMODATION.
This is in both directions, of +3 and -3 D. Lenses.
This should be completely expected, since all natural eyes - are contol systems

If your refractive state is ZERO Diopters, and 20/20, you are exactly "pre myopia".
What is proven, is that the natural dynamic eye "goes down", at -0.5 Diopters per year, for all eyes, in high school.
Thus, after 10 years in school, you will go down by 5 Diopter, graduated from college.
Data from Dr. Young's plus prevention study.

The definition of myopia.
-0.5 D and -0.75 D
Approximately
20/40 and 20/50.
That is where effective recovery would be possible.
I believe a person of great insight and motivation, could get a refractive change of +0.5 Diopters, and therefore back to 20/30 and better.

Pre-Myopia,
Refraction = 0 Diopters, Range, -0.75 to +0.75 Diopters.
V.A., self measured 20/40, and better, when at -0.75 Diopters.
Can I get out of it, by my measurement control.
The struggle to define the refractive states, of all nornal, or fundamental eyes.
This covers the subject of "pre-myopia", and prevention actions, he could take, when the person has exactly 0.0 Diopters, and 20/20, at age 14.
It is known, that in our educated environment, the normal eye goes down a steady -0.5 Diopter, for each year in school.
What do you tell a 14 year old, who will go to college, when still at 20/20?
In Graduate School, he can expect to go down by -5 Diopters, in 10 years.

Dr. Young's, "Plus Lens", study - with detailed Statistics, for the nornal, or universal dynamic eye.
The children wearing a strong "prescribed", minus lens, went down at -0.5 Diopter, for each of these five years.
The children wearing a plus lens, went down at zero diopter per year.
Under optimal conditions (pre myopia, 20/25), they did not become myopic.
For every practical purpose, the "pre myopia" person, must understand this science.
At age 14, with "still 20/20", you can almost guarantee, that the normal eye will go down, by -3 Diopters, in the child's 6 more years, High School and Graduate work.
This is the type of science, the person must understand, with 20/20, (0 Diopters) before he even starts wearing a minus lens.
The educated choice, must be his choice.

Wise intelligence, will encourage the person, to take necessary steps to get himself back to 20/20, from 20/50.
No, you can never, "prescribe it"!
It is his life, not your life.
If I want to get a refractive change, of +1.0 Diopters, from -0.75 Diopters, to +0.25 Diopters, (from 20/50, to 20/20), and I want to qualify my vision, as a pilot and engineer (all by self measurement), then you have no fear about "me", complianing, with my own scientific understanding of my own dynmic eyes.
I will do it myself.
This is not, "therapy".
It is just scientific common sense.
Prevention, at "pre-myopia", is absolutely not medical, in your terms.
So the educated engineer, should be encouraged to take this choice himself - in my opinion.
