What does it take to become the Principal Percussionist for a major symphony orchestra? We'll hear from Matt Howard, Principal Percussionist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, about what it takes to make it through the audition process from mental preparation to physical conditioning.

This is amazing. Only one of my teachers talked about how similar auditions are to recitals (because no one else did, everyone else's opinions outweighed this teacher's), and it's starting to free up my playing so much to play as if it's a recital. Thanks both! Matt's two masterclasses in my grad school were game changers.

Incidentally, talking about crazy percussion rep, Percy Grainger's The Warriors is a big one!

I got a set if the Jake Nissly sticks from Sweetwater and they weigh over 90 grams each. Does that seem heavy to you all? My Matt Howard's weigh about 75 grams each. Thanks
