When my daughter tells me that modern pop singers can sing, I just start playing Otis. End of discussion.

Who’s always reminded of Ducky every time they hear this song?

I know so many of you are with me thinking of Duckie from the movie "PRETTY IN PINK" lip syncing this song. I really want them to react to this movie. Jay, don't judge the movie based on its name. It's soo good and deep in ways. Starring Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer (Charlie Sheen's brother in the show 2 and a half men) and Andrew McCarthy. ❤️

Jay & Amber, you'll love his "These Arms of Mine"!!!! Arguably the greatest soul singer of all-time!!

Otis Redding!!! Love his voice and style. "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay" is one of my all-time favorite songs. "Try A Little Tenderness" is a terrific performance. Love, love, love him.

Oh, this is so good. Otis Redding's performance at the Monterey Pop festival was as groundbreaking as Janis's and Jimi's. The live version is incredibly powerful! "I've Been Loving You Too Long, " "These Arms of Mine, " and "Hard To Handle, " are other great choices.

Love, love, love Otis. He and Sam Cooke melt my heart. Soulful, emotional, and timeless.

Three Dog Night did a great cover and Steppenwolf covered this song amazingly, with a different arrangement
Otis Redding's biggest hit is Dock of the Bay

Otis is the man, phenomenal sound. Amazing song. As Duckie from 80s Pretty in Pink movie would say, "this is a very great tone, my mother would sing this to me. This is Otis, I love Otis". Duckies' Dance/Lipsync Scene (Try A Little Tenderness) is soooo awesome, fun, I love it. First thing I think of now when I hear it, eccept for the soulful sound that melts ya. Thanx so much, stay groovy, Peace

Try a Little Tenderness was first recorded in 1932. It was a Depression era song. The arrangements for Otis Redding was a stroke of genius.

I think this is Otis' best performance. Enough soul for a whole week. He didn't invent soul singing... but he perfected it.

Otis singing this song live at the Monterey Pop festival is probably the greatest performance in the history of R and B . He gives every bit of his being to that crowd . Out of breath in-between songs, he let it all out . Mind-blowing is an understatement. A must hear ( and see ) for anyone who loves music.

He wrote I can't turn you loose, sung by everybody including the blues bothers, He wrote Respect Aretha took that to the moon. In the movie the Blues brothers most of that band was his band in real life.

I was sad when I heard about his passing in 1967. I was in high school back then... Miss you Otis, us baby boomers were spoiled with amazing music and real musicians of different labels from the 1950s-1970s throughout our teens/20s. We had amazing Soul music. Us boomers had Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Stevie Wonder, Etta James, Ruth Brown etc..you GenXers don't have a clue what you missed and no projecting about other gens since u missed as much as them so don't bother responding

One of the great soul singers. Janis Joplin loved his performance and style and was influenced by him. They crossed paths at the Monterey Pop festival in 1967. His performance there is worth watching. Interesting that Sitting by the Dock of the Bay became a hit after his tragic death in plane crash.

Otis was also great songwriter in the 60s. He wrote the song R-e-s-p-e-c-t that was later covered by Aretha Franklin. And when he heard her version he famously said,
" that's her song now! "

Now you know why Janis was so in love with Otis and emulated his style with NA NA'S and certain growls not to mention stage presence truly truly truly one of the greatest entertainers ever and a national treasure!!!

Duckie Dale dancing to this in Pretty In Pink is a great movie gem. The Commitments from the movie of the same name do a fantastic version of this song.

As much as I love this song and the soulful sound of Otis I will forever see the Duckman from Pretty In Pink when I hear it.

Omg YES! This song is an absolute classic! It’s also in one of my favorite scenes from the John Hughes film Pretty In Pink. Hoping you’ll react to that on your movie channel one day, I know you’ll love it.
