I think many of the major stakeholders in sync will initially resist it due to the fact that blockchain makes all transactions transparent, while sync fees traditionally are discretionary. But it will probably become inevitable at some point. I wonder how that will affect the negotiation power of all parties involved, and whether the prices will on average go up or down for indies. If you can see the transaction history of each song and know how much it has been licensed for before, that's definitely going to change the conversation on how this particular license compares in "value". I could see the influence on the price go either way. Will be interesting to see.

That's probably the best title you could"ve come up with Jesse.. We will be referring back to this video one day. I remember telling my producer friend in 2003 that the internet would be huge for music let's get your beats on it. He was one of the best producers in the city and was producing everyone for free. With my help he could 've been a pioneer in beat selling or a music library. He didn't see the vision then. He missed it. I learned how to produce and was still early as an online producer that made money. Moral of the story. Jesse is right. Remember Netflix wanted to partner with Blockbuster video? I'll leave it there. The future is now.

Absolutely the future. Shouldn't need any skimming. Any producer who wants representation will need to buy a Coin, Value goes up, projects gets funded, everybody shares in the equity. It's the future maan. It'll need buyers like BBC in the UK to break PRO exclusives but I imagine Netflix etc. will have no problem with it. PRO's have a fantastic opportunity here but they will need to move fast and smart. Seems unlikely.

Hey Jesse, I'm glad you are reporting on this! I sent you an article over 6 months ago that I came across that talked about music & block chain technology and asked you what you thought about sync licensing moving towards block chain and how you thought it could impact us. You didn't say anything so I figured it got buried in your emails.

I wondered how we can benefit from this and sync in the form of NFT’s.

This really sounds great. I have been reading about this topic lately and have seen it mentioned by more than one successful producer. Let's hope things develop in the right direction.

I wondered when smart contracts would become relevant in music. I love my PRO, but they're going to have to learn to compete.

I had 25 episodes of a show where I didn't get paid because it fell out of APRA's sampling system. I would imagine blockchain could track all airings on TV. Let's hope.

Does anyone know A GOOD FORUM for composers who want to discuss and learn about SMART CONTRACTS / how to go about "selling" your music with them ???
