I don't think people actually understand how incredible it is that they survived

Yes, I do remember this. I was 15 and prayed with the rest of the World, that the three would get home.

Famously misquoted as “Houston we have a problem”

"The 3 men crammed into their lunar module" *proceeds to show a photo of the COMMAND module at the only angle possible that DOESNT show the lunar module*

I’m deducing that the kidney infection came from some sort of bladder infection from a combination of dehydration, malnutrition, sanitation, and or a lack of bathroom.

Kidney infections SUCK and they can come on quick.

I don't think he mentioned it, but this was the Apollo 13 mission. Launched on April 13th at 13:13.
The movie with Tom Hanks is phenomenal, I highly recommend it

“So, what’s the craziest thing you’ve done”
“I was in space and the ship exploded”

The cool thing is that if you see the plans they had for the Apollo missions, they had like 6 or 7 backup plans in case of failure for almost everything. It's insane how thought out it was. They had enough that they didn't even have time for the astronauts to learn what all the error codes meant and the one set of error codes that Apollo 11 was known for was a computer overload, but it was so unlilely they actually had to get the people who wrote the manuel to help them out with finding out what it was. (First part I learned from Destin on Smarter Every Day and the second part was from the Kennedy Space Center)

This was the single most terrifying and coolest moment in all mankind. Its what i do as my job, taking to the most extreme, troubleshooting complex problems.

Even through failure & seemingly insurmountable odds, humans never have up & found a way to get them home!
Has to be one of humanity's greatest moments! 👌👏

Damn, I've heard that line a thousand times, but i had no idea why it was said. Never even questioned it before.

Apollo 13 for those wondering. There’s a great movie starring Tom hanks about it and it’s really cool to me how they kept them alive and got them back.
