I'm just starting to learn how to parry and this video helped a lot. As a tip to those who can squeeze it into their build - golden parry costs 4 FP, the assassin cerulean dagger talisman restores 15 FP per crit. As long as the enemy you're fighting is riposteable you'll be able to continuously parry

Nice breakdown, but there's an issue with your 'problem' with Golden Parry. The fact that it starts quicker is in no way disadvantageous, even if you're used to the timing of the other parries. The first parry frame is the earliest of all the parries, yes, but its last parry frame is also the latest of all the parries, tied with all the other Ash of War parries. If you hit the button at the same time, Golden Parry will never miss a parry a different parry would have hit.

If you activate a parry against a wall while riding an elevator (like the first elevator you come up and there isn't a gap between the elevator and the wall) the shield will spark during the active parry frames. Very good way to get a visual of when the parry starts and stops working.

A tip of timing the parry - try not to look at the weapon so much but rather pay attention to the hand movement of the enemy, for example: click parry button when you see the hand start going towards your character. Try practicing on the normal swordsman enemy by the merchant Kale at the start of the game, you will see what I mean, its much easier to hit when you pay attention to the hand movement rather than the weapon. (don't parry when the hand is moving away from your character---- DO parry when it starts coming towards your character). This is especially noticeable with enemies like the Crucible knights. And btw, I only know this works well with buckler and Carian Retaliation.. dont know about other shields.

When I first played, I tried but just couldn't land parries very often, good to know why! Next time I play, gotta give it a try, thanks!

Another disadvantage of golden parry is apparently the hitbox is more flat, so you are susceptible to tall overhead attacks

Also anyone wanting to learn parring I suggest going back to the tutorial area and practice parrying on the hollows there and the crucible knight at the evergoal by stormveil Castle

I completely gave up on parries when I kept dying to a single knight in Limgrave trying to figure it out; I decided that dual-wielding and rolling would suit me better. This breakdown will give me a better shot. Thank you.

Your level of detail never ceases to amaze. You’re a legend! Learned a ton, thank you. I’ve also had problems parrying and you really explained why, much obliged

My favorite so far for parrying has been powerstancing a katana with the wakazashi dagger with parry on the dagger. The wakazashi actually powerstances with katanas instead of daggers, and nobody in PvP sees it coming, and gives great utility in PvE.

The numbers are helpful but pausing the animation and showing the frames could be useful for the majority of people

Great video, thank you for the info

This made a world of difference in my gameplay. Easily one of the top 10 useful ER tutorials. Great job on the video editing and conciseness appreciate the on screen titles and conclusion notes.

Golden parry it's my go to
Helped a lot against Rob, Moonveil, Waterfowl Dance, shield poke and did manage to parry multiple players at the same time just watch your Fp.

Pretty funny parrying someone from a bit far away then walking for the critical hit.

Thanks for this video. I also tried parries with a medium shield, and sworenoff parrying in this game.

The best parry video for Elden ring! I finally want to give parry another shot… had the same feelings about it when starting a confessor build. Would be nice to know where to get each parry in this same video though.

Excellent video! I needed this information, 200 hours into the game and I haven't thought about parrying until now xD

Best discussion I've seen on the subject. Thank you. Now I see why I didn't like Golden Parry vs. my Buckler.

Omg I didn't know this is information and I wish I had beforehand! I kept wondering why it was so difficult for me to land parries against the Banished Knights, when I was using a medium Brass Shield. Granted I was using Golden Parry and I think that it was the quickest parry now that I have learned this in hindsight! SUPER useful video! Thank you for posting!

By the way you forgot to mention that when you use Carian Retaliation if the magic against you is powerful or weak the daggers you spawn are either small or big, this is what i use, it's awesome.
