Curious about Generative AI? 1440's got your breakdown of how this technology works.

Forget everything you knew about computers—Generative AI is transforming technology and our future.

By the late 20th century, it became a serious field, with breakthroughs in the 2010s from IBM's Watson and Apple's Siri. Generative AI, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT launched in 2022, has skyrocketed in use by predicting responses from vast internet data.

Generative AI accelerates drug discovery, diagnoses, and industrial maintenance, but raises concerns about job displacement and misinformation. As it evolves, so will our understanding. What lies ahead in this AI-driven future?

"... even predicting repair needs of industrial equipment" This has been done for decades before AI, maybe more simplistically, just based on hours of running, so I guess it takes into account more factors like: acceleration, torque, ambient temperature, etc.; and add a subroutine to calculate a new metric like "predicted degree of dysfunction"; and they slap AI on it.

I want to ask you what this week's lottery numbers are

I played with AI and the lottery. Gave it patterns of five numbers in binary format and asked it to pick the next five. Binary meeting 001 equals 1, 010 equals 2 and so on. It didn't do well because, random patterns produce random patterns. AI is all about learning patterns. It does this by converting words to numbers and performing math on the numbers

Anyone who has seen the Terminator’s depiction of SkyNet is traumatized by the idea of AI.

The AI narrator voice is obvious and distracting. This makes our comprehension change as it doesn't sound "natural"... after a few minutes, I retained less of the 3 minute explanation than I'd hoped. Maybe this is the point?

It was an informative video, but listening to the AI voice, it pronounced 'machines' MAH-SHINES'.
