iPhone X: Embracing the Notch!

It's been just under two weeks since the launch of the iPhone X, so we've all had some time to get used to the notch. Love it? Hate it? Let us know in the comments.

Can't believe you left out the most obvious problem: landscape video! The notch is a dealbreaker for that reason alone.

For a $1, 000 piece of technology I would expect it to be perfect, not “oh I can tolerate a notch”. Im pretty sure if a manufacturer produced a TV with a notch, it wouldn’t sell very well. I can’t help thinking that people will buy anything from Apple, and Apple are happy to take our money. I’ll stick to the iphone 8 for now.

Yeah, I cannot believe people are still talking about the Notch. It is needed as a housing for the FaceID components. I’m glad this nice video was put out.

To all those "if you don't like the notch, don't buy it" people -- I didn't like it, and I didn't buy it. After two years of salivating over all the X rumors, I bought the 8+ and the notch was a big part of that decision. Steve Jobs would have rung the neck of anyone who proposed that notch. It's awkward, bad design. TVs don't have notches, windows don't have notches, and almost every other smartphone doesn't have a notch. The notch is an end-around for technical barriers Apple hit. I am happy with my 8+ -- basically the same phone but with no notch, a larger screen (yes, it IS larger), a more conventional and compatible aspect ratio, and slightly better battery life -- all for $300 less! Happy about the rumors of a Plus X next year, but I'll still wait if it has a notch.

I think that apple should've added the black status bar that you can replicate with these application in the whole system, but this can be done with a future jailbreak

For me, the notch DOES serve a very important purpose. It identifies the TOP of the phone. Just like the older phone button made it easy to see where the bottom of the phone was. Particularly helpful when rotating the screen which is always turning to the upright position, you can immediately see which end should be up(for face recognition). I LOVE the notch.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about it. It looks nice and doesn't affect the experience at all.

Personally, I bought the iPhone 8 Plus, not because of the notch, but because I am more familiar with this design since I was coming from a 6S Plus. I don’t see the notch being an issue as I rarely find myself staring at the top of my screen. I am usually staring at the middle or somewhere in between. This is a great sacrifice for the aesthetic and technology you get.

I'm glad you guys like Samsung's design.

These Apple fan sites won't tell you but the notch is a Samsung design--they got a patent on it before the iPhone 7 was even final.

They also used the notch on some of their TVs of 2014 & 2015.

I like the notch, it's a design flair unique to the iPhone X that gives it character as well as functionality. I only used it briefly in the shop but the black levels are so good on the iPhone X that it never gets in the way. Until they've figured out a way to hide a camera underneath a display I would say you are either going to get notches or a small amount of upper bezel, that's the trade off for a front facing camera with these designs.

I've been using my iPhone X since launch day and the notch doesn't bother me; it's clearly there for a reason. Also think it was a unique approach, since it allows important icons to be visible, without being intrusive.

I like the notch. It gives EXTRA space for the status information in the ears instead of just cutting the whole top bar. By the way: You can still have the full information status bar (including carrier information and battery percentace) by just swiping into control center.

The notch doesn't bother me at all, but I am going through withdrawals not having my battery percentage displayed. It's just such a pain in the tush to have to bring down the control center every time I want to see the battery percentage,

What notch? I've had my iPhone X since Nov 3 and after the first hour with it I quit noticing the notch. The display looks incredible and the notch doesn't both me at all.

My biggest problem is that Do Not Disturb is not considered important enough to display outside of Control Center. I’ve gone an entire day wondering why my notifications weren’t, well, notifying me before realizing that Do Not Disturb was on but not displayed on the status bar.
