Finally someone explaining this. I find it so hard to hear people say "relationship over religion" as an excuse to follow Jesus in their own way. There is nothing wrong with desiring to follow Jesus, but 'religion' really can help guide in doing so.

the whole "its not a religion its a relationship" thing just always seems to bring God, the creator of the universe, to a lower level
its a religion and a relationship

Just because the phrase is misused, does not automatically mean that we need to get rid of it.

I subbed recently and I believe the content you’re making to be relevant to helping correct/ bring to light modern day misunderstandings of the faith. This is my encouragement to keep pursuing and growing in this endeavor, God willing. May God fulfill this “good resolve, ” you have undertaken! Thank you for the message.

It's confusing language. And who's the author of confusion? I rest my case!

The Apostle Paul pronounced a curse on most churches today because the main Christian denominations of today preach a different gospel than what Paul preached. To quote exactly what Paul said, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8). Both apostle Paul and Peter preached the same gospel and quote from the prophet Joel (2:32) saying, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of Yahweh shall be saved." (Romans 10:13 and Acts 2:21). The English translations say “Lord” instead of “Yahweh.” But “Lord” does not translate “Yahweh” it is a substitution of a totally different word altogether. This substitution activates two additional curses because if you substitute a word you are both adding and subtracting at the same time. “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:18, 19)

We are commanded by Messiah that, “...repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:47). In other words, we are supposed to preach the gospel that came out of Jerusalem and not preach the gospel that came out of Antioch, or Rome, or England, or New York, or Chicago, etc. By the time the gospel got to Antioch it had already been perverted as we read, “...And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” (Acts 11:26). The problem with this is that Yahweh spoke of a people called by His name (Deuteronomy 28:10; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Isaiah 43:6, 7; Daniel 9:19; Amos 9:12; Acts 15:17). Yahweh did not choose the name “Christian” for Himself. The people of Antioch chose that name and all the so called main denominations of today embrace that name “Christian” for themselves. When Peter and Paul preached the gospel they quote the prophet Joel, “Whosoever shall call on the name of Yahweh shall be saved.” (Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13). The English word "Lord" is not a translation for the name Yahweh but is a substitution. I ask you, how many of the church fathers and so called main denominations of today preach that gospel? None of them. Absolutely none!

“Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when He comes shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.”
Some people say that they are watching all the time but they overlook verse 38. “And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.” (Luke 12:37-38).
Under normal circumstances people are sound asleep during the second and third watch. Therefore Luke 12 is not talking about watching in a figurative way. The LORD is talking of a literal watch.
There are appointed times in the scriptures for us to fulfill a literal watch. In fact, all of the appointed times of holy convocations (moedim) listed in Leviticus 23 are watches and vigils of Yahweh. Each one of them are fulfilled by both an Old Testament and corresponding New Testament historical event.
In other words they will be assembled together in a holy convocation and not out and about driving cars and flying airplanes. Like the 120 were assembled in the upper room Acts chapter 2 for the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost).

Unfortunately, because of a man-made ecclesiastical calendar many will not be watching at the appointed time when He comes.

I always thought "religion" was a dirty word after hearing that it is trying to earn your way to Heaven like all the false religions, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc and calling it a relationship is important because none of the other religions even claim to have that.

Amazing video nearly perfect take in my opinion, that deserves a sub. From my experience, I use that phrase when talking to Muslims or athiest who have been hurt by the church in order to convey that you can have an actual relationship with Jesus, but I’ll be sure to not say this in a church(it’s borderline heresy in that context)

You are correct. In reality it is a demonic attempt to undermine religious obedience.
Christianity is God's religion where believers are in a relationship with Him in faith, love and obedience.
PS. Wearing your hat backwards is a sure sign you love this world and you want to be cool instead of holy as He is Holy.

You can’t separated Christ from his church.

The scripture even says if you’re church doesn’t have a priest a deacon and a bishop then that is not a true church.

Because the Bible is saying if you want to do something religiously let it be “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
Unless “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.” We do have a relationship with God not a man made religion, but one ordained of God. I’ll also add the definition here is anyone is curious. Religion:
: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
2
a
(1)
: the service and worship of God or the supernatural
(2)
: commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
b
: the state of a religious
a nun in her 20th year of religion
3
: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
4
archaic : scrupulous conformity :

The word used for religion in James isn't used in that context anywhere else. I think it's important to know who James is addressing and that's the Jews across the Roman empire. Jews that have had their whole lives based on religion. He's not telling them to be religious, he's telling them if they're not showing the fruits of the spirit they're doing religion wrong. Then goes on to give teachings on how to have a better relationship with God. Or I suppose you could say how to be religious better. Regardless it's not saying you have to be religious.

I think the disinction most of us are desiring is a distinction between the dead religion of many pharisees/sadducees and true, spirit-led religion that James is speaking on. The word 'religion' does indeed have so much baggage associated with it and for communication purposes, it's not always the best. This does not mean we neglect the language of the bible, but the book of james was not written in English! It may be wise for translators to seek other language moving forward for the original greek? Idk, just thoughts.

For me it’s hard when organized religion has been used for so many things throughout human history. It’s been used for good and for evil. How do we know these translations at some point down the line weren’t manipulated for one personal gain or agenda. I think the reason why people say relationship over religion is because of all some of the hypocritical and blasphemous people and others have seen people of faith but also of power manipulate, use and abuse others. I guess my thing is how do we know what’s wholesome and what’s possibly the words of Gods followers who have fallen. Think that’s one reason why I’ve found the books that have been taken out so fascinating.

It is through religion that you have a relationship, I can prove it. So if someone asks you what religion you are, you will claim to be a Christian. If you say you don't believe in religion, then you are most likely a Buddhist or an atheist.
If you adhere to what all of the Bible teaches, then your religion is Christianity according to the proper meaning and description of what a religion is in the English language.

in Matthew 10:37, Jesus literally said "whoever loves their children or parents more than me, is not worthy of me".
And thats for a reason too, if you have God as the center of your life, you will live well. But make the mistake of making something or someone the center of your life, and youll be setting yourself up for a lot of pain.

I'd say neither, We are disciples of Christ.

I mean, religion isn't bad. Bad is people who put religion over the bible. When Jesus argued with the Pharisees and other sects of Judaism of his day, he was arguing exactly this. They were putting religion and man-made laws above what the Bible actually taught.

I personally have a bad taste in my mouth every time I say the word religion, not because of it being bad or because I hate it, but because of how people over here perceive it. People think you do what you do not because you love and have faith in God, but because you are part of a group (religion). How many times I heard people saying "Oh, you don't do that because of your religion, right?" and I have to correct them that I do what I do because I want to serve God. Well, I don't know how things are over there, but here is like this. XD
