You should have seen what they destroyed building the tube. Cut and cover. Glad the Martian spaceship survived

Most likely the reason this section of wall is buried so deep today is because that area was repeatedly flooded by the Thames and blanketed with mud. The reason it's exposed on Tower Hill is that it was too high for flood waters to reach.

people do complain about how long it takes to build stuff in the uk, but this is why, we always have to do a bit of archaeology to ensure what we are building on is not significant. Shout out to the unsung heroes of archaeology who have to upset the builders to preserve our history, you are appreciated. That said, I would rather take another journey through hell than go to whats left of London.

Seeing the Roman wall in London in 1988 when I traveled there as a child inspired me to my lifelong love of Rome and it's why I majored in classics in college.

When I was about 12 my mum & I went to visit my cousin in London. She worked for the Post Office, and the building that she worked in also had a chunk of Roman wall inside it, whIch we were able to see when we went to meet her one lunchtime. (My parents also worked for the GPO in Somerset, so I think that's why were allowed to go in) I cant remember where the building was, except it was in Central London, and it was about 1969, so probably it's all changed by now. I think they also had a collection of historic post boxes there too.

I thought as a math teacher that the negative stories an levels in the underground were way cool. Loved it.

The small but extraordinary London city museum has a segment of if wall, and the most extensive exhibit of Roman horse bits outside of a well-eauipped show barn. 😉🐎.

I NEED to spend at least a couple months in London exploring everything.

Nice post, reminds me of preserved Roman features in an underground car park in Catalonia.

Very close to there there's the gate to the fort ruins (I think it was the gate to the fort, it might've just been a gate, I was there a decade ago), when I saw it it was on an Open Day, in the basement of a building. I also saw that day roman houses that used to be by the river (the river has been pushed, not the houses) near Monument, also in a basement. I often wonder how many basements in centre London have ruins that aren't usually open to the public.

Another interesting fact. King Richard III was discovered under a council car park in Leicester.

Does it really make sense that ancients pulled in hundreds of thousands of pounds of dirt to cover 1000s of years of good working structures...😅to build crappier constructions?
