Totally, totally agree! I kept waiting for Janet to have at least SOMETHING to do with the rest of the story and saw it as a lost opportunity for the author to add some really great twist. 🤷‍♀️ Ugh...and when I tell you I was gutted when Emily was killed! 😟 I really liked her character. We all need an "Emily" in our lives to call us "lovie" and put on a kettle of tea when everything is going to shit. 😂

Janet! Thank you for talking about Janet! I was so annoyed. Why have her live and not give her a resolution? I expected Janet to be the reason weird things were happening at the house or actually be Emily or something. Give me something!

I think this story didn’t know what it wanted to be. It wanted to be The Haunting of Hill House meets Gone Girl but didn't fully commit.

I hated that the ending had two different explanations for what’s going on and they’re at odds with each other and is just does not work as it’s written with that epilogue. I was so disappointed. Such a gorgeous cover and great premise and amazing potential, but it was too chaotic.

For a debut, I’m cutting Matlin some slack but if her next title is this poorly structured and edited (with a terrible “twist” ending), I will not be picking up a third.

Just finished this book and I was hooked... until the last few chapters... Like what? So many unanswered questions. I was really disappointed. I would definitely pick up from this author again because I did enjoy it for the most time. But I Haye going into a book that seems like it is going to be paranormal and it wasn't.

What happened to Janet?
How did the door shut by itself, especially at the end when the new family bought it and had no way of having monoxide poisoning?

I prefer that the book wasn’t supernatural in the end but still happy I skipped this book. Went with You Again instead lol
