Well if the protector were shown on the map, then I wouldnt need to search for a youtube video ....

The icon for lost protectors on this map is displayed as a light tan, long upright icon on gatherers tab of filters.

. So he's right about where to start it. Now to find the Palicos switch the map sorting (L1/R1) on the map to traps and eviromental. look for the same marks as the protector marks but NOT in the area where the quest started. To save time they are in are 11 a short way from the eastern camp. One is walking straight south along side area twelve along the narrow path, and the last is tricky but from the southwest camp head a little ways north and there is a narrow ramp leading up it'll lead right to it. I hope this helps people.
