The economic opportunity in China is the biggest in New Zealand history, according to Sir Graeme Harrison of ANZCO Foods. He says New Zealand's red meat producers and processors will be at the forefront of any boom thanks to the shift towards a greater intake of protein among consumers there. In this video Sir Graeme also provides a frank insight into the hurdles facing Kiwi exporters.

Summary:

- The growth in beef consumption in China is particularly marked
- The FTA between China and NZ locks in a journey towards zero tariffs
- China has large, vertically integrated industries in pork and poultry, but beef and sheep meat are underdeveloped
- ANZCO is putting effort into moving up the value chain in China; it is invesing in opportunities outside slaughter and processing
- In other markets has its own import and distribution networks; this is not possible in China
