Do you check with the actual pushrod length that you use just on zero lash snug rocker

I’m currently building a new 5.7 for my Camaro and I currently do not have a set of used head gaskets that are already crunched down. I assume that I need to measure proper pushrod length before checking piston to valve clearance should I install new head gaskets and heads torque heads down to proper torque get my proper pushrod length remove the heads and gasket check piston to valve clearance without gasket then just add my gasket compressed height to ptv clearance to make sure I’m golden then just reuse new compressed head gasket. Or just do the whole process without the new head gasket and just add the compressed gasket height to all my measurements ?

Do you check a cylinder on each side or do you have to check all of them?

I have my lm7 opens up to check for repairs, what should I spray on the pistons/ bore while I have heads off to resist rust or corrosion? You recommend wd40 every week or so? Is it safe to leave an old engine opened up? There is a ton of junk I’m trying to clean . Thanks

My only question is how can you know how much you can take off a cylinder head by milling it or know how much piston to valve clearance you’ll have when ordering like dome pistons or know how big of valve reliefs to order etc on an engine

Is it best to check it with a solid lifter or does it matter

Great content. What do you do for the hydraulic lifters. Do you make sure they are pumped up or do you modify them to make them a solid lifter?

I noticed you kept looking at that guy with the air compressor blowing something off. I thought you were going to punch him out.

There's lots of videos on Piston to Valve clearance and you should check out a lot of them to get a good idea. To start with, you need a solid lifter, or make a solid lifter to check it. My latest build has .055 on the intake valve. Steve Morris Engines has a good talk about this.
