Say it with me:
"Animation is a medium, not a genre"

"You have to do it in animation, and if you want to do it in live action, you still have to do it in animation."

That's a HELL of a weapon to bring to the debate barrel.

Well said man; people complain about animation being for kids when it’s really fun watching movies like this

We need more people in the film industry to abandon the "animation is for kids" and the "animation genre" ideologies. Animation is a truly fantastic storytelling medium, and we can achieve so much more with it than Hollywood is willing to believe

I've always said that I feel that you really do appreciate animation a lot more as an adult than you do as a kid.

I didn’t think i’d hate Amy Shumer more before i learned she trashtalked animation at the oscars that year.

One of the reasons I'm a big fan of Anime. The amount of creativity and imagination you can get from animation, rather than from live action, is staggering and the possibilities are endless. CGI can sometimes stick out like a sore-thumb, whereas in animation, everything is animated, so nothing feels out of place.

The only reason why Animation is “just for kids” is because the industry doesn’t allow to evolve! You can’t just not produce animation that isn’t for kids and then go “well it’s to babysit kids look!”

Castlevania and Arcane have already proven that animation can handle very heavy themes about religion, corrupt governments, mental health, abuse, trauma, politics and frame it a interesting, fantasy world with the interesting imagery that comes with it.

When I became an adult, I put away childish things. Among them was the fear of being called childish.

And this movie was awesome, easily among Dreamworks' best

Animation is just another art form, it is no different than stop motion or live action. There are some that are made for adults and some made for kids (the quality of which is up for debate). But that's just it, animation is an art from, not inherent for one audience. And that's something that more people need to realize

Well said. While many animated films happen to be family films or children's films, that doesn't make the art form itself childish. And even if a show or movie is aimed primarily towards kids, that doesn't mean adults can't find joy in it.

Animation is one of the most important things in entertainment and it’s not to be taken lightly, Films like this are great examples and you can’t forget the good old Disney movies back in the good old days. There’s also great animation from small studios like the ones who made Hazbin Hotel and Helluva boss

I was never raised to think I needed to abandon animation once I became an adult. Because my father has never lost his love for the medium. If we saw an animated movie in theaters as a family, it was because he wanted to see it. He bought all the Avatar season boxsets so he could watch them. I never really saw any bad cheap movie growing up because it was never just something to put on to babysit the kids. It was a shared interest between generations. I have such a high standard and respect for animation because of him.

Absolutely!! I mean, why are adults - the exact class of people who make these movies happen in the first place - shamed and called "immature" or "childish" for enjoying animation?

The answer: Unhappy adults who are projecting instead of asking themselves: "Do I need therapy?"

Yes. Yes, you lot very likely do.

I love it whenever Doug reminds you that he actually understands media
