I met Myer Lanskey on several occasions, my father from Sheepshead Bay moved to Miami in 1968 - I was born in 70 - my father with a 'hook up' became the general manager of Fountainebleau & Doral on Collins ave - pops got me a job as cabana boy at both hotels - Myer Lanskey was a regular in the coffee shop - my dad intro me as his kid - Myer asked me if I do good in school - listen to my parents- gave me $20 - told me be good & always listen to my parents . I would see him regularly in coffee shop & pool bar cabana area .

It is a great choice of man to pick as a topic. I feel he was extremely intelligent, all business, and to me they way he operated and carried himself could be trusted. It’s great to hear his voice, I am not knocking the actor, but in the Godfather, Hyman Roth, was sort of a Meyer Lansky based character. Meyer sounds off when he talks, has depth, the Godfather, Hyman sounded to mild, weak voiced, almost a weasel of a character. Meyer is on point that if the media or anyone says something long enough, many people start to believe it. Many men in the events of the US today, say something, and people take the word as absolute truth. They do not look into the details, what actions were really done, what end goal was truly accomplished. I take it as being lazy to look into what one says. I think Meyer was a once in a lifetime figure. I like that you look into figures of all facets of that Life and life in general. That is proof of a mind growing, hungry for knowing more. My hats off to you, for a great episode!!

$300M in 1965 is more than 1 billion today. He’s probably one of the biggest racketeers in mob history

Great post. I read Little Man, which was a book written by Robert Lacy. He was an integral part of the mob in its early years in America. Fascinating chronology of his life and times. He was in it up to his eyeballs.

From what I understand, he was absolutely ruthless. He knew people were scared shitless of him and he used that psychology to exploit people for money, like when fixing sports etc.

Which is typical mafia behaviour I guess.

Especially as he comes across like a charismatic, gentlemanly, old man in public (like this interview). Stereotypical Machiavellian behaviour.

Enjoyed this one JP 🔥
I think Myer Lansky was also bugged coining the term, “ we’re bigger than US steal.”

👍how do you think the conversation between our justice department and the Israeli government went like ❓
Since Israel had no problem handing him over to us

I just realized this interview is strikingly similar to the Hyman Roth talking to reporters at the airport scene in godfather 2- I’m guessing that’s who they based the character on

Excellent!!!! This was a man with a mind and a set!!! People look at churchhill as an important figure or theodore Roosevelt or Trump or Benjamin Netanyahu...they should be looking at Lansky instead!!!!
