There's no doubt that Apple's iPods were one of the greatest innovations of the 21st century. This video will show you why (in my OPINION) the iPod Classic will always be relevant and loved by many people - no matter how much time passes :)

"Complete detachment" is why I still use one every day. Modded 512gb 6th gen, and working on a 128gb 4th gen rn. Biking to work, at the gym, on the bus, in the car, any time. No WiFi/data needed, long lasting battery, no notifications interrupting my music, higher quality sound and files vs Spotify and bluetooth headphones etc, just pure music. Plus I OWN my music. It can't disappear because record labels get weird/greedy.

I recently visited Japan and was able to buy a 6th gen silver iPod classic for $40. It was marked as junk, so I didn’t expect it to work. But to my surprise, it did work, and it looks rather decent aesthetically.

I very much agree about how the experience of it is different from listening to music on your phone. Great video!

As someone who still regularly uses a 3rd gen Nano for pleasure, a janky 1st gen Nano for when I do heavy duty work, and a 4th gen Shuffle very occasionally to prevent the battery from dying, let me tell you: synchronizing it’s not that burdensome when you already have playlists organized. It DOES take some effort to organize your music library in the first place, but it’s doable. I eschew music streaming services for the reasons given on the video, and due to the fact that mobile data is both unreliable and expensive where I live, so, keeping an offline dedicated music player is totally viable in 2023 and beyond, specially for those who don’t live in a first world country.

Great summary of why the iPod is still great. For me, the 7th gen 160gb is the best daily driver iPod. I love the sound of the 5.5 videos but they lack the RAM to shuffle large libraries. The 4th gens are awesome because you can always see what's playing and they sound great.

I have a collection of Apple decices and Im relling you, these devices literally cannot be killed. You can still get battery, storage, even screen to replace the old ones.

Its crazy!

If it can run smoothly without internet, just that alone makes an electronic music device a classic. 👍😉

I have all sorts of iPods ranging from the classic to the shuffle and here and there I get into a retro mood where I’ll listen to them for 4 hours at a time

although having only used my uncle’s old classic once or twice, at that time i just fell in love with the ipod, just the feeling that you’re COMPLETELY disconnected from everything to just listen to your music kinda just grabbed me, i’ve been dying to mod an ipod

I still use my 5th and 7th gen classics - I don’t have Spotify anymore because I found I was paying to listen to music I already owned and I hated that. I recently picked up a 2nd gen mini and am planning on modding the storage so I can use that too.

I recently revived my 15 year old ipod classic 6th gen and it still has all ~13k songs I put on it all those years ago. The nostalgic feeling and the fact that I'm listening to all my favorite tracks which I carefully curated back in 2008-2009 is just mindblowing for me. Now I only have an apple music subscription just to keep up with the newer music which I like 😂 I really hope Apple would revive ipod classic line but with more storage and bluetooth feature, especially for us who don't have easy access to modded ipod 😬

Having your own (self) curated collection of music is a much more enjoyable experience. I’ve found that the unlimited access in streaming creates a kind of decision overload. Having your own collection on an iPod is a much more interactive experience, and provides a connection to the process. Overall I find it more engaging and satisfying - I just don’t particularly enjoy Spotify or Apple Music - except perhaps for a playlist for workouts.

I never owned an iPod Classic growing up (born in 2001) I'm seriously considering getting either a modded 5.5 gen or a modded 7th gen. A rule I've given myself is I'll only spend what they cost at launch the exception to this is, that it's slightly more expensive because it has Bluetooth or USB-C.

I still regularly use a 7th gen iPod classic and I love it, might rebuild it sometime soon cause the hard drive is having some issues

When you stream, a streaming service is letting you listen to their music With an iPod, you own the music.

i've got a 5th gen, 60gb. have pumped a load of songs on it, and i still have most of the storage available. I was really impressed with the batterylife when i used it for music for a trip to another city. about 7h travel time plus.. a few more hours goin about. when i got back, i left it in a drawer for a month and it still didnt run out of battery
