South Africa started it's ODI career a bit late when compared to the top Cricketing countries.

Kepler Wessels represented 2 nations. Initially Australia and then South Africa. Runs shown for Kepler Wessels includes also the runs when he represented Australia.

Hansie Cronje was on top for a few years later Kirsten overtook him a few years later.

Jaques Kallis reached top position in 2004 and he is still the highest run-scorer from South Africa in ODI
