She never learned to send Morse. She dropped a radio antenna at New Guinea. She would have been able to send Morse longer.

I live in Atchison Kansas, and she is very much a big deal around here! I've shared you and this podcast with the city hall Facebook page. Hopefully that generate some unique Atchison traffic for you.

After hearing this podcast, I find myself wondering why it came down to us over so many decades as a "mystery." This isn't the mystery at all. She couldn't communicate so she couldn't find the island, she ran out of gas, she died in the ocean, the end. There's absolutely no reason to believe anything else. May she and Fred rest in peace.

Great episode! This reminds me of Australian Sir Charles Kingsford Smith and his co-pilot John Thompson flying their plane Lady Southern Cross. in their attempt to break the England-Australia speed record held by C. W. A. Scott and Tom Campbell Black, disappeared over the Andaman Sea in the early hours of 8 November 1935. Eighteen months later, Burmese fishermen found an undercarriage leg and wheel, with its tyre still inflated, which had been washed ashore at Aye Island in the Gulf of Martaban. Lockheed confirmed the undercarriage leg to be from plane. The wreck of the lady Southern Cross has still not been found.

Well the aliens theory is obviously absurd, but could she have been eaten by Cthulhu?

Another fine episode. Have you ever considered covering the Taiping Rebellion and its leader's... eccentric... interpretation of Christianity?

ADDED: Just looked at the picture of the coconut crab and sweet fancy Moses, DEFINITELY kill it with fire.

If flying in the 1920s required upper body strength, women would absolutely have lower records, just as, yes, women will never beat top men's records in race, car driving, no matter how in shape they are ... Not unless technology advances to the point that no strength is required to drive race cars at all, and even then, it's unlikely because of of the disparate impact of testosterone extreme risk tolerance.

A very interesting episode, thank you. 👍

But, one thing. Could she not have been abducted by aliens? 😂
