Coronavirus UK: Wembley IKEA opens as Covid-19 test centre for NHS staff

A Covid-19 test centre for NHS workers has opened at Ikea’s Wembley store.

The testing centre could be one of several NHS coronavirus testing sites set up at Ikea branches, the Swedish furniture company said.

The government and NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens last week promised that antigen testing – which ascertains whether someone currently has the virus – for NHS staff would be “dramatically scaled up” this week.

The UK government has come under fire for fewer tests being carried out than in other countries.

Doctors spend hours assembling the test kits which came flat packed with unclear instructions

My husband (postman) has been told today to expect self-testing kits to be in postboxes by, probably, Thursday as they have been sent to NHS staff at home to self-test. The thing is, they will need to leave their houses to post the kits back! Not only that, but the postmen themselves will be removing them from the postboxes. It makes no sense to me. I would have thought, given couriers are still working, to have them collected safely for both the person testing and the person collecting.

Is it ok for NHS workers to refuse to be ordered into high risk jobs if they don't have adequate protection equipment ?

Testing kits which were headed to the UK have been found to be contaminated with coronavirus.

The Government has said that it aims to boost the rate of tests to 25, 000 every day by the end of April at the latest and has asked private companies to help drive up test production.

But one production firm, Luxembourg-based manufacturer Eurofins, told UK labs on Monday that deliveries would be delayed as core parts had been contaminated with coronavirus, the Telegraph reported.

Isn't this the place staff have to wait for hours to get tested?

Kind of feel like the Evening Standard should have kept its mouth shut about this facility and let NHS staff get tested without long queues, caused by people who see this...

Footage of Irish test centres show no testers, no queues. Mr Cheswick channel.

IKEA started this mess off by outsourcing to China in the first place. I know it's hard for those outside London and the big cities but the reality is once this pandemic is over we need to reduce our reliance on China and instead make it here again.
