I have had a pea puffer for 2 years in a 5.5 gal tank of male guppies. Heavily planted with enough ramshorn snails. 'Puffy' has taught me WHAT he wants. #1 He eats the snail eggs and newly hatched snails. #2 When the elder snails die off, he comes to the glass and lets me know to add more adults to lay those eggs.#3 I have never seen him eat an adult snail. He gets mad at the occasional one that he suspects is not laying enough eggs and PUSHES the snail over. That's all. CONCLUSION - there is a wonderful BALANCE in this tank due to the snails constantly cleaning while Puffy keeps them from over-populating. TWO YEARS of this now. I LOVE

Defo interested in potential housemates I know ottos are supposed to be good but didn't know of any other. I've only got a 30l nano I was planning for a single one of these as I don't know if I could add more or add some dither fish like chilli rasbora. Would be filtered by Hamburg matten filter. Hi there! I am considering potentially starting a new set up for pea puffers, if my current community tank is not ideal for them.

I was wanting to get your insight if I could!

My current community tank is a 20 gallon with water parameters matching their needs, but their tank mates would be one bristlenose pleco and 2 upsidedown catfish. (I have not been able to find a third to complete the school in the last 3 years.)

Would pea puffers leave the unmoving fish alone? Or are they likely to nibble on the bristlenose and catfish, even if they are well fed?

I personally don't experience any issues between my male puffer and male betta, the puffer generally avoids the betta

Such a beautiful fish but I wouldn't recommend others buying this fish, just saying since its officially *endangered* now.

Visiting Kerala a few months ago I was told by locals that the fish is going into decline but the authorities are keeping the news quiet because of its success in the aquarium trade. Other species are also in danger in that area of India but yeah :( Hope people can get some more breeding done with them.

Just keep that in mind before you buy these little guys.
