Webinar that took place in November 2020, as part of Woodchip for Fertile Soils (WOOFS) - an EU-funded EIP Operational Group of researchers, farmers and foresters from the UK, led by the Organic Research Centre and formed to investigate the role of woodchip in soil health.

Woodchip can increase soil organic matter, water holding capacity and nutrient levels of soils. We hear the latest from Organic Research Centre trials and from practitioners about the practicalities and benefits of incorporating it into a farming system. It explores the potential for using ramial and other woodchip as part of a whole farm system of fertility and soil health, shares results from 3 years of trials on three farms in England looking at adding ramial woodchip to cultivated soils as a soil amendment, and includes farmers who talk about their experience of using woodchip, including the logistics of woodchip production and application and how to make it work in practice.
Chaired by Ben Raskin, head of Horticulture at the Soil Association, speakers include: Professor Christine Watson (SRUC), Sally Westaway (Organic Research Centre), Eric Munro (Anada Valley Farm), Iain Tolhurst (Tolhurst Organic Produce), Robert Benford (GK Benford and co).
