Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches the Katha Upanishad, which is one of the most popular Upanishads. The scripture concerns the story of a young man who goes to the house of death to find out what happens after death. The reply describes the nature of reality and the meaning of life.

The Katha Upanishad has two Adhyayas (Chapters), each with three Vallis (Sections). The Vallis contain the following number of Mantras (Verses):
Adhyaya 1 - Valli 1 - 29 mantras (1.1.1 - 1.1.29)
Adhyaya 1 - Valli 2 - 25 mantras (1.2.1 - 1.2.25)
Adhyaya 1 - Valli 3 - 17 mantras (1.3.1 - 1.3.17)
Adhyaya 2 - Valli 1 - 15 mantras (2.1.1 - 2.1.15)
Adhyaya 2 - Valli 2 - 15 mantras (2.2.1 - 2.2.15)
Adhyaya 2 - Valli 3 - 18 mantras (2.3.1 - 2.3.18)

It’s always good to listen to the ultimate knowledge, ultimate truth but as soon as one starts the day, the whole knowledge vanish and I come back to my normal day to day behaviour (sansar). How to keep the ultimate knowledge in heart and mind and then perform the day to day duties and responsibilities.

Swami Sridharananda quotes an English adage, but it is the core choice being spoken of here; “A fool learns through experience, and a wise man through prescience.”

Swami Ji is too wise Alhamdulillah. He knows how to fix all the flaws of the soul's attachment to material instead of it's Origin/God;

- he talks about why one can't have both i.e wordly pleasure and enlightenment.. swami tries to detail that they are diametrically opposite to each other.. they are like light and dark.. if one is there, the other cannot be.. but the swami fails to use the right explanation.. i deem my explanation is way more sharp.. initially even i was confused.. yeah why can't one have both.. ubt only after thinking for a minute.. you realise that.. what is the end goal of the wordly things you are seeking? it is the bliss.. but enlightenment is knowing that you don't even require anyTHING to be in the bliss so in that way they are polar opposite.. the statement of having both wordly things and enlightenment doesn't even make an iota of sense.
- a disciple of sri ramakrishna asks him 'sir have you read kant, have you read blah blah blah?' sri ramakrishna says 'what!, those books are a product of ignorance throw them away'.. that's what i thought too.. and further swamiji says this whole of samsara is ignorance.. not knowing the real nature of the self.. i think i am the body and mind.. i will do n number of things etc etc..
- so everything is maya? sri ramakrishna says there are 2 types of maya.. vidhya maya and avidhya maya.
- what is all of this talk of enlightenment.. you can be enlightened whoever you are.. wherever you are because it's a mindset.. it's a shift in the way of thought.. arjuna when he came to the battle came with the intention of getting his kingdom back and to avenge but after gita.. his intention is god realization. external circumstances do not matter in this whole fiasco.. so what is the test that one has reached this mindset of enlightenment? sri rama when he was evicted from his kingdom.. maintained the same smile he maintaned before.. and tulsi das bows to that ram who maintains his smile no matter what the circumstances are.. it's a mindset thing. you don't need to be a monk to get this.. you can have the possesions but still you can be enlightened this is the jeevan mukti.. those worldy things don't even touch you.. you are answerable to only the supereme your relation is only with him.. sri ramakrishna was once asked to leave the kali temple and he just got up and started walking away, later he was called back and he just came back like nothing has happened.. this level of detachment from the world. his only naman is to the kali maa that's it.
