Full highlights as Tirunesh Dibaba defends her 10,000m title in an impressive time of 30.20.75 during the London 2012 Olympic Games on 3 August 2012.

Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

What's also amazing about Dibaba is that she doesn't seem to be forcing herself. Her face still has this cool attitude that most runners don't have. She's a true runner and a true champion.

The most amazing part is how relaxed and in control she is. You can see the other racers looking tired, breathing hard, and exerting lots of energy, but Dibaba just looks like she's out for a light jog

I really love the Dibabas, seven siblings and all of them run and their cousin Derartu Tulu was the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold in the 1992 games, world records, Olympic medals, world championships, the Dibabas’ accomplishments are unprecedented in this sports.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾❤️🇪🇹🇪🇹 🇪🇹

Tirunesh Diababa was a phenomenal long distance athlete; I don't think that she got the recognition she deserved. How can people say that women's athletics is not exciting. This was an exciting race to watch and a demonstation of her dominance. Amazing!

I am an Ethiopian and feel so proud with the team work that showed how much 'Ethiopia' is placed first than individual records by our athletes. I respect and value all the hard work done by Workenesh Kidane, with similar value as to that of the Gold medal. I can't stop watching this video in my whole life.

Dibaba; you are the reason why I fell in love with athletics

Crazy how she can open the gap like that with just over 1 lap to go. Anyone who has run long distance knows what I'm talking about, it is extremely difficult and rare to see this kind of kick at the end of a long distance race.
