In Ottoman history, Sultan Ibrahim I is known as one of the most extravagant rulers. Though he only ruled for a period of roughly eight years, his reign was defined by decadence, nepotism, sensuality, and, according to some, outbursts. Like many of the most captivating historical figures and celebrities, Ibrahim's life was tragic and curious.

“Despite all my rage I am still just a Sultan in a cage”

This is why the empire collapsed. Starting with Suleiman the magnificent, every emperor started locking away or killing their brothers and sons. So when they died and the next in line would be incompetent thanks to being locked away all their life.

Man, that's something. He's similar to Caligula, Nero, Commodus, and Ivan the Terrible. Doesn't excuse what he did. But does go into detail what happened to him.

There's a terrific Turkish historical tv series called Magnificent Century Kosem, part of which shows what Ibrahim witnessed growing up. It's heartbreaking.

This was almost too crazy to be believed! The poor countrymen he ruled! But, being locked in a cage at a young age and seeing your brother kill the rest of your brothers, you wouldn’t be a very mentally stable person.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The citizens pay for our leaders extravagant and lavish lifestyle. While we have to work 8 to 10 to 12 plus hours to make ends meet. It's a damn shame.

Times like these seem horrible, yet I find myself wanting to live for a short time in these eras. Would be amazing to understand the way of life then.

Also he fell in love with a woman named Sekerpare Hatun. He loved her so much that he gifted her gold as much as her weight. Which was 330lbs.

Crazy Ibrahim’s reign was definitely a decline in the Ottoman Empire. Weak rulers usually signify a down turn.

His mom was aware of he became insane in that cage but she wanted him sit in the throne for 8 years.Just to hold the power in her hands. When he got out of control she decided to take him down. That could have done earlier 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I feel kinda bad for him in many ways - he had massive amounts of trauma that obviously messed him up for life. That doesn't excuse things like "drown your whole harem in a jealous fit, " but all these stories of mad monarchs who should have never ruled in the first place, it's like, how do they not have rules like "hey if this person is a total mess maybe just put them in a fine house to live out their days and let the next person in line rule."

He would have flavored his coffee with ambergris, not with amber. Ambergris was also used to flavor hot chocolate in Europe during the 1700s.

He was so inept that even his own mother felt that he had to die by the end.
