Using Portfolios to Demonstrate Growth and Knowledge

Portfolios allow students to demonstrate growth, agency, and authentic representations of knowledge. In this presentation, Jon shared how student portfolios in development in the music education department are used to track student growth within specific courses, how they demonstrate student preparedness for their student teaching, and validate their readiness for teaching licensure. Participants were invited to reflect on the benefits of using portfolios to collect rich and informative assessment data, and how portfolios can demonstrate meaningful and authentic portraits of student growth and knowledge within their courses and programs.
