The Honda CBR 650R is a cool bike. But it's not the perfect bike I expected it to be.

This is the best review I’ve seen on this bike, in possibly the shortest time, no one else has mentioned if you go into settings you can get rid of the flappy loose clutch to disable the e clutch completely and bring the tension back, that’s the one thing I wanted to know .As an older rider that’s returned to motor cycles after 30 years and being one year in riding a ninja 650 this is the bike I was looking at for this year, the 600 cc bikes were bothering me for the riding position, this one seems to sit right in between comfort and sports ergonomics as I won’t be tracking a bike or going on all day rides very often .Seems if you like the sound and feel of 4 cylinders but don’t want to rip your arms off this could be the best compromise of sports and comfort with more than enough power for the street .The previous cbr650r was a bit ugly with its stubby back end, this new model has a sleeker more sports bike look which wasn’t available when I was looking last year .For me the Suzuki gs8 is a bit ugly, still a twin engine with not much more power than the ninja 650, I’m going to really have a look and test ride on this Honda now, seems pretty much Goldilocks porridge of sports bikes to me .thank you for a decent review .

I can tell you what this bike is great for... An older guy (40+) who might want something a little less crazy, but still feels sporty, looks the part, and for the most part plays the part of a sport bike. This isnt a second bike purchase, its really a good bike for someone who maybe has a smaller displacement bike (grom for example) and wants to gradually step their way into a sport bike without dealing with the madness of a true 600... if you compare it to say a R7, its apples and oranges. I think you started to get the point at the end of the video, and you danced around the point early on.
Btw I cross shopped this bike with the 8R, and the e-clutch, , 4 cyl, better looks, and more premium feel sold me on the Honda. Tho i dont think the 8R is a bad choice if you are considering it. Its just way more upright in comparison. It seems like the market is moving this direction, to the do it all "sport bike" segment, and the twin engine is a big part of it. I like that i could still get the old school 4cyl experience from the 650R.... The ninja 650 didnt appeal to me at all. From what I have seen it feels lifeless for the most part and is just a softer experience over all, which if you just want better ergos get the 8R.

I rode it back to back with the CBR600RR. No contest… the 650R is “inoffensive” but a million miles away from the RR. It’s too heavy, very bland, but ridden in isolation will appeal to many people, which I guess is the point!

Hats off to how cool those hilltop roads are.

I took the BRC which had us on 150cc Yamaha dirt bikes for two days. Then my first bike is a '13 CBR 500R. It felt like a lot at first and I still don't rip full throttle much. I do like the grunt of the engine if I'm in too high of a gear you can just turn the throttle and it won't bog down. There's some features I wish I had like ABS... and a screen that told me what gear I'm in. Before I got a bike I did track days in cars and drove like an idiot revving the hell out of old cars. I got it more or less out of my system. Now I care more about the feel of using both hands and both feet (for that reason the e-clutch doesn't appeal to me) and I care about the sound. I don't need a 600RR or a liter bike to go blistering fast. I just want the awesome sounds you only get out of a 4cyl bike. I love how pure bikes are. In an age where most cars have cylinder deactivation and tons and tons of electronics. A bike is still pretty pure. I have friends that owned Civic Type-R but were afraid to drive them because they're so rare and hard to replace. Not the case with a bike. If you had a 20yr old and 10yr old CBR and ran it into the ground I don't think you'd be disappointed with a 2025 CBR. In fact, it probably has a few little features you'll appreciate over the old bike. Removing that fear that prevents you from even enjoying what you have combined with the low cost of ownership just makes them so special. Especially bikes like this. I plan on getting the CBR650R as a replacement for my current bike to use as a fair weather commuter to work as well. Keep miles of my vehicle.

Great review! I passed my test last month, again... having been a bit naughty I owned an R6 but been out of the game for 4 years. The ride was too agressive for my daily commute, I am thinking gsxr 750 or this. I know two compleaty different animals but the cbr650r appeals to me a lot. My question would be would I get board with this, 95hp seems plenty for some weekend fun? Thanks guys ✌🏼

If the engine was smoother and with cruise control, it would be perfect

Love the concept, plan on getting one, just hate the freakin color! Too much red, need more black, or more white!

Is this coming to the states? I'm learning how to ride and I always have anxiety with using the clutch... This would be great for me to slowly build confidence 😭

I had the 1999 CBR600F4, which was this bike but better, 25 years ago. Weighed less, cost less, had more power, aluminum frame, better suspension. The Eclutch is a cool device but it doesn't rescue this bike from being a weak effort of value engineering from Honda.

I really want the CBR560R, mostly for the e-clutch. I've done enough track days, now I just want to have fun. it's so heavy, and while inline 4's sound good, I hate having to rev it out like a squid to get any power.

The new R9 looks amazing ... but no e-clutch!

I've had faster bikes and think I'd get along fine with a CBR650R - but that e-clutch and its' ugly mechanism is not for me.

You're talking about things that don't matter and trying to build a narrative against it. Instead of focusing on what the bike does well, you are choosing to create things its not good at. Just ride the fucking bike and take note of uncommon variables such as the torque and powerband considerations, but don't knock the product. It looks bad. They engineered this bike this way for a reason and comments down below demonstrate it. The E clutch is a great idea and you can disable it. That's good thinking especially for their long term customers who they still want to buy one.
