Brienz – A Walking Tour Along the Lake of Dreams (Spring 2024)

Brienz is a picturesque village nestled in the heart of Switzerland, surrounded by stunning mountains and perched at the eastern end of the vibrant turquoise Lake Brienz. Brienz is renowned for its rich heritage in wood carving and violin-making, a tradition that is celebrated and preserved to this day with a dedicated school for these crafts.
The village’s charm is amplified by the Brunngasse, once awarded the title of the “most beautiful street in Europe,” known for its 18th-century houses adorned with intricate wood carvings.
Brienz is conveniently located on the narrow-gauge railway line connecting Interlaken, Meiringen-Hasliberg, Brünig, Lucerne, and Engelberg, making it easily accessible. Additionally, the village serves as the base station for the steam rack-railway that ascends to the panoramic and hiking peak of Brienzer Rothorn.

My late husband and I spent a month exploring beautiful Switzerland in the early 90's with our train-boat-postal bus passes. One of our favorite spots was lovely Brienz. We stayed in one of those charming little chalet-style log houses near the train. We'd open the shutters in the morning and watch the little green train chug by on its way to the top of the mountain. I wonder if our favorite little restaurant is still there? If memory serves it was called Steinbock. Thank you for the opportunity to revisit a place of so much happiness. ❤

Gorgeous 😍 view of the lake, houses and greenery 🌿🌳🏞️ the lake water looks so pristine 🤩🌊. The charm of the beautiful houses adds to nostalgia, definitely most beautiful street. The shoe with the flowers was very cute and so was the hen 🐔 on the road. I remembered the 🐈 cat walking by the house your iseltwald video😅 I still watch it to feel better form the soaring temperature of my city ( up by 4°c to almost 36°c
The awesome wood carvings of animals, birds and people are so fantastic 😍 the birds chirping and the sound of crickets add to the scenery. Gorgeous flowers in all colors, purple, orange, red, pink🌺🌹 😍❤️ thank you for making my day joyful, merci beaucoup ❤
