Beyond searching for vulnerabilities, this seems useful for confirming there are no backdoors or modifying it to work with the rest of your stuff (since cheap IoT usually comes with garbage apps to control it).

I've been using computers since the early 90s, yet I never tried to learn this kind of stuff. I'd always get easily overwhelmed and give up. But now after 18 years of being a cable guy, I want to do something different. I might not have the means to jump into this, but I gotta start somewhere.
