People are so high these days, tasers and pepper spray doesn't work. The first informed deterrent is the actual awareness of the presence of the officer, then the verbal orders from the officer to drop the weapon... Place yourself in the position of the victim being chased by a knife welding maniac who is enraged. Better yet, your child or mother. After all that drama and aggression would you advise that the suspects be shot with a taser? Better yet, pepper spray.??? I'll wait.

My question is this: Are/ Were, Tracy Police Department Officers issued Tasers? It seems to me a Taser would be a far better first line escalation of force against a subject with a knife such as this. I'm fully aware of what people will say contrary to that opinion, but I believe they are wrong.

A person could be tased from a distance, and an officer could quickly determine whether or not it's having the desired effect. If not, drop the taser, draw their duty pistol, and fire if necessary. Contrary to popular belief, a person with a knife (even a large knife), is typically not much of a threat (with any relative distance between them and a potential victim of at least 15 to 20 feet). Any reasonably fit person can evade being stabbed or slashed from that distance.

And an officer should have enough time, even considering the video we just watched, to use the protocol I suggested. The "21 foot rule", is referencing the most extreme and rare situations, and athletic people, in terms of how fast a person can approach another person and stab or slash them.

100% Justified and as a CPL holder and longtime gun owner I would've shot much sooner.
1 big problem with having immigrants come here and not forcing them to assimilate with our language and what to do if encountered by police.
in this persons former country they chop heads off so the suspect probably thought it was ok to carry around a big knife in front of cops.

The 1 reporter asked how the language barrier could've been the problem.
That's the suspects problem not the police's problem.
If a gun is pointed at you, you should be able to understand in any language. definitely no excuse.

The suspect learned really quick, and the hard way.
I wish I could say I felt sorry for him, but I don't he got what he should've got and is very lucky the officer was nice enough
to only shoot him twice.
