Kinderdijk & Cheese Farm: Day Trip from Rotterdam, Viking Rhine Get-Away Excursion
Показать описание
Known for its windmills, The Netherlands has an amazing system of moving water to prevent flooding. Kinderdijk is a charming and historical village in the Netherlands and is renown for its iconic windmills. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring a network of 19 well-preserved windmills dating back to the 18th century. The windmills were originally built to manage water levels in the region. They are non-functioning now, but volunteer mill keepers are allowed to live in them if they maintain them.
Visitors to Kinderdijk can enjoy picturesque landscapes, explore the windmills, and learn about Dutch water management techniques. It's a great destination for those interested in history, engineering, and beautiful scenery. The area also offers walking and cycling paths, allowing for leisurely exploration of the stunning Dutch countryside.
Also on this trip, I enjoyed a visit to a cheese farm. It was a very informative excursion to learn about the cheese-making process and get an up close and personal look at the dairy cows, the machinery and the handiwork that is involved in the process.
Both of these destinations were booked as a day trip excursion through Viking River Cruises, as part of its Rhine Get-Away River Cruise.
