Hawkmoon 269 cover - U2.wmv

This is my interpretation of U2's Hawkmoon 269. In general, I find it a challenge to cover U2 songs with just my limited capacity on the acoustic guitar and a decidedly "unBono-like" voice. The band creates a sound or groove that is larger than the sum of its parts, and their music isn't about interesting chord changes as much as rhythm and variation within repetition. I've tried to capture the general feel and rhythm of these songs as best I could, but I'm not playing the Edge's specific guitar parts or anything. And Bono is an amazing singer, so please excuse the fact that I'm not him. :)
This is another song that alternates mostly between two chords, and then adds a third in the chorus, a tried and true U2 staple. It is also a good example of what I call a "list" song. Bono lists lots of analogies for the need for love. Lots of great thoughts in there. I'm always impressed by the ability to list lots of varied analogies. It's also a great example of Bono's range. It starts at a very low pitch, raises an octave once the song starts going, and then raises another octave when the passion builds to a crescendo at the end. Conversely, it's a good example of why I shouldn't try to sing that high. Unfortunately, the "highness" is crucial to the energy of the song, so you'll just have to endure it. :)
Like heat needs the sun, like honey on a tongue, like the muzzle of a gun, like oxygen - I need Your Love...
