A lot of people seem to be getting offended by the use of "Best Foreign Language Oscar-Winning Films" in our title, so we just wanted to clarify its usage. In 2014 (when this video was made) the OFFICIAL category name for the specific Oscar that was handed to international pictures was called "Best Foreign Language Film", as such we used this name in our title. We understand it has quite a demeaning nature to it, however, this is upon the Academy, not us. As of 2019, they have since changed the category title.

The problem with watching a foreign film is that you have to watch it with subtitles to fully appreciate it. Unfortunately, most people don't have the patience for that. But if you have the patience you will be well rewarded.

A very satisfactory list, containing many favourites! I'm a big Fellini fan, and 'A separation' was I believe very thoughtprovoking. One small detail: Michael Haneke is Austrian, not French (though 'Amour' indeed is a French production).

I'm italian and i'm happy to see you've choosen Life is beautiful for the 1st place...but my favourite movie is Lifes of Others...no doubt

Two foreign films I consider great are The Official Story (1985) and The Assault (1986)

The Lives of Others is the best, hands down.

And on 2012 India screwed it by standing one mediocre of a movie to the Academy, when Gangs of Wasseypur, Pan Singh Tomar or Kahani could have been sent.

I didn't read it in the comments - BUT I just waned to say THANK YOU for the effort ! Great presentation & synapsis of foreign oscar movies - some of them sparked my attention that I haven't seen yet ! "Life of others" is indeed a masterpiece !

Why the fuck would you include spoilers in a Top 10 list and not at least have the list in the description? Do you seriously expect everyone to have seen EVERY film that won the Oscar for best foreign language film?

8 and half way better than La vita è bella (Life is beautiful), and Amarcord should have make the list

While there are a few on the list I have written down, there are so many out there to look forward to. My foreign film collection is extensive. Thank you for the suggestions. Your number one is good, but try and get your hands on a film called Zelary. I have many others should you care to inquire.

i get that most of these films were added for their artistic brilliance which is why they won an oscar...but you should include Departures, I believe 2011's winner. Story and character driven
