Just curious: Do you ever check those slinks for 'gill maggot' (parasitic copepods)? Fisheries management types tell me it's not a problem cuz they just slough off when the fish first hits salt water in the spring; it's only a freshwater phenomenon. But I know this isn't true because 100% of the thousand or so salmon I've handled in fresh water were completely maggot-free. I actually worked in a fish parasitology lab; it was my jam. And yet 100% of spent fish I've handled in the estuaries are utterly maggot-ridden with Salmonicola, no exceptions at all. From a zero % jump to 100% seems statistically significant by my estimation. But scientists only report what they're paid to report. And their obscenely-inflated civil service paychecks come with a non-disclosure qualifier. Don't even ask me about the Harper years.
