Back when my kids were young( I have 3) and I was barely making $4 an hour, we would buy those burritos($2), a can of chili($1), and a small package of cheese($1)! I would lay the burritos in a 9x13 pan, pour the chili over them and then sprinkle it with cheese and onion. Put it in the oven and baked until hot and bubbly! We thought we were living like royalty! Lol 😂

I remember as a kid when bread was 10¢ a loaf. My mom read that one day bread will be $1. My mom freaked out worrying about that and low and behold, bread is a couple dollars a loaf now and we think nothing of it. Some of that crusty bread you buy would make great bread pudding cheap, and meatloaf. My kids would never eat the heel of bread so I'd save it up till I had enough for bread pudding, they never knew they were eating the heels.

I have recently gotten some super deals on items Walmart has on clearance that has expiration dates into 2024! For instance: the big 27 Oz Bush kidney beans for 25 cents, Pearl's sliced olives for 50 cents a can, 24 Oz Wolf chili (no beans) for $1.50, Newman's Own Caesar dressing for 84 cents, seasonal flavors of 24 k-cup coffee for 1.25. You have to slow down a bit and scan the shelves for the larger yellow clearance tags, but it is worth it! My pantry is much better stocked because I started to notice those sales and get them if its something I use.

I never knew you could buy frosting from the bakery. That's such a good idea!

I have started doing a lot more from scratch. I bought a 15lb bag of potatoes for $5 on sale and we don't go through potatoes that fast. So when I noticed them getting eyes and a little wrinkly, I just peeled and diced them then blanched and froze. Now I have my own frozen potatoes for far less than the pre-made. I like doing this with lots of the veggies such as carrots and onions. Which, my Walmart sells 3lbs yellow onions for $1.77 and a 5lb bag of carrots for $3.88

I had to check our egg prices as I was watching this, and WOW! Our Walmart's dozen price is $3.16...less than half what it was last month!! Still twice as much as last year, but such an improvement! And the cage-free variety (our preference) is 2.67!!!

My Walmart had 60 count eggs for $12.22! It’s been over $20 for months! A dozen by itself is still over $3!

One thing I have noticed is that Walmart are selling many of my weekly items for the same price but they have made the amount smaller. Baby powder same price but the package severely shrunk. I know because I have a pantry and toiletries bought for future use and my old pantry item for example is 16 oz, but the newer items shrink by a few once’s the next time I purchase. Usually in the same size packaging but slightly less weight of content. But the baby powder was a whole new package which used to be the next size down, now is their largest bottle available at the highest price. Just a warning for folks to check. Great channel, very good content, thank you.

We don't have any Walmarts in NYC, but we have a ton of Targets, and they have similar go-to great values. I am totally convinced that their house mayo and mustards are name brands at half the price. Their dairy prices are crazy good, and most of the canned goods are great pantry staples. Plus, they give points and it's always fun to cash them in for something frivolous. But like Walmart, not everything is a deal anymore. You really have to pay attention and be willing to put in the effort to save money these days.

I like your balanced approach Mindy to how you do it all and feed your family relatively healthy meals seeing that they don't have any dietary restrictions and are very active! I am a senior and live alone but I've even Incorporated some of your ideas here and there!

I love GV canned chicken for $10 for 4 cans. I am also a fan of their chili with no beans, cream of chicken, pizza crust mix, frozen cooked chicken breast strips, canned pineapple, classic alfredo, box of macaroni and gv toaster pastries.

I love getting discount bakery bread and making French toast and freezing it. The frozen blueberries and raspberries are a great price. I like to cook some of the frozen berries and have them over the French toast.

We started buying the English muffins and sausage patties for my son who loves having sausage muffins for breakfast. SO MUCH cheaper than paying almost $6 for a 4-pack of pre-made. We also started buying the Walmart brand of coffee creamer-$2.86 compared to $4+ for name brand.

At my WMart the reduced rack for bakery goods is a joke. nothing less than $3 for anything. And that is the reduced price. Ugh. SoCal/San Diego area is very expensive.

I recently became vegan due allergies and diet restrictions -- one of the few things allowed for me is seafood -- a can of clams is 2.18 at my Walmart-- I use 2 of those, broth included, 1 stick of plant butter, 2 cups chicken broth, and 2 cups oat milk, creamed corn, and it makes a tasty chowder type meal-- if you use the whole clams which are about 40 cents more per can plus a few potatoes it makes it hartier and more filling wirh some toasted bread

As a vegetarian myself, I am always playing with recipe ideas. A recent meal I have started doing is to saute leek and mushroom and garlic puree/ paste with jarred chili flakes while cooking Raman noodles in a separate pan. Drain most of the water from the noodles then mix in veg. Keep warm while drying and egg, keeping the yolk runny. Serve the noodles with the egg on top!

The cottage cheese was an excellent find. I added that to my cart and I will be adding the Great Value canned pineapple to that.

Other deals: Hunt's canned pasta sauce is still just $1.18.
Avocados - $0.98 each
Whole fresh carrots - 5lb bag. Peel, slice and store in jars of water in the fridge for a snack.
Bananas - 0.58/lb.

When I was stationed over seas in Italy, I would make these mini pizzas using tortillas, pizza sauce, cheese and any veggies or meat to we had leftover, even did a mini buffalo pizza this way . Bake in oven until everything is heated through, you can do this on a grill.
If you have any leftover turkey from Thanksgiving I would make buffalo turkey pizza, bbq rach turkey pizza, pork bbq sandwich...
