The Hara is extremely important in Shiatsu. In a lot of other body works, this whole area of the body is neglected. And in Shiatsu it's looked at really as an important diagnostic tool to see where the energy is balanced throughout the body. But also as the seat of a lot of vital organs. And a place where the energy meridians pass through.
So I'm going to just show you a few ways to work on the Hara. And basically what I'm feeling for are the extremes of energy. Which are either really hard and constrictive or really soft, like butter. And those are the extreme situations. And then of course, there's a lot of shades in between.
So while I'm working on the Hara I'm using it as a map for the rest of my session; how I'm going to design it. No two sessions are alike. So I'll check in here and then it'll give me clues to maybe which energy pathway I want to work on next, or what's more important for balancing this particular receiver.
So if I feel something is really soft, and I could just kind of go, go, go, go, go. It might mean that there's depletion of energy and that there needs some balancing there. If I feel the opposite, which would be something very hard to constricted, then that needs dispersing. So that's what I'm looking for all through this abdomen area. And I'm pouring my body weight in. I also reach my hands underneath the Hara. And this is also an area to feel for the balance in the back of the abdomen.
It's a great technique just to do something circles around in a clockwise motion to rebalance all of the organs and to bring attention to this very important part of the body.
