How To Find The Key To A Singer

Показать описание
Musicians often struggle about how to find the key To A Singer when accompanying singers or congregations, despite being familiar with the music. This is a common issue among beginners and intermediates.
Ear training is the most critical skill for gospel musicians, surpassing technical skills and music theory. Musicians should spend 50% of their practice time developing this ability.
To find a song's key, identify the "key center" or "one chord" by picking a melody note and associating it with a scale degree, often using the Solfeggio system.
Solfeggio System for Training: The Solfeggio system helps associate notes with syllables, enabling musicians to memorize and mentally visualize scale degrees. This foundational skill aids in finding tonal centers and learning complex musical concepts.
The course on ear training covers Solfeggio, interval recognition, chord progression identification, and melodic dictation. It's designed to help musicians train their ears to recognize keys, chords, and licks by ear, even without a keyboard.

As a beginner, when listening to random music, I'm discovering my ear is seeking the progression. Pop is soooo basic but jazz and a lot of gospel require a little more effort. But I whole heartedly agree that in gospel music, training the ear to the singer is paramount.

Who would dislike this lesson and the knowledge beng made available. I'm so grateful that finally I've found an instructor that is willing to be a blessing to the body of Christ. I've been working through your Beginner's Template for Practice since February 2019. I love it and can see the difference in my playing. God Bless you from T Town ( Toledo) Ohio

Warren, I have gone through so many YouTube videos trying to find someone with the "patience" to, not only, share their knowledge, but to also teach with the zeal in knowing that people, who, like myself, really want to learn to understand and play piano / keyboards. I took piano lessons back in the late 60s / early 70s and I even had a little singing group. After a few lessons, I decided to just play by ear. Well, now that I am 60 years of age, I realize now how much I should have stayed with it and practiced more. I do have an ear for singing ( I sing TENOR), however, I want to obtain the same ear for playing piano. I am so glad that I stumbled across your videos. I do know how to play the scale... thank goodness. I really think it would benefit me to join your lessons on line.

Warren, I tell people that same thing. There’s a difference between hearing and listening. I’ll reference something technical in a piece of music and point it out to them and they don’t hear it like I do. Great point!

I have a talent to identify the major key of a son without playing the instrument, but this is a great lesson! I'll share this to others. Thanks!

Dear bro,

To be honest it’s a very important skill that every gospel musician should have . I have been playing by ears for quite a few years in my church . I feel it’s a must need skill for every musician . Some times in the church singer may sing in the middle and as you rightly said to find the key by listening is a very important skill and challenging. Hope many will be benefited by this organised course .
