Hi, I'm a Robotic Software Engineer, and I go over six different sensors you might use on a robot or autonomous vehicle, what applications they might shine in or struggle with, and some considerations based on my real world robotics experience. These sensors are Lidar, Radar, Camera, IR (Infrared), Ultrasonic, and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit).

Great multi sensor presentation and video ! I’m working on a current industrial robotics project in which radar sensors seem to best because of the environmental conditions ie steam, fog, water spray etc. however I’m struggling to geo reference my radar sensor returns collectively to allow us to get the contour shape of the top of a vehicle as it enters the robot work cell. Any suggestions with algorithms or help is much appreciated. We do have other ways but radar seems to be the most repeatable and linear feedback we have found. The ranges to the parts surface are about 6 feet. We just want to get the vehicles contour so we can apply an offset to the “z” axis height of our robot and maintain a constant standoff distance of like 12 inches informally so variation tolerances are not critical. Thank you John

We also have a local stem project that could use your companies help as well. Thank you. J
